Dear Community,
The Handicrafts Group on the forum has been a little quiet lately. Would you like to share your current projects?

Hi Josefa,
it’s great that you’re bringing the Handicraft Group back to the forefront. Sometimes things just get pushed further and further to the back, and before you know it, you’re no longer on anyone’s radar.

I’m currently sewing fitted tablecloths for my round tables. It’s a lot of fun, and the fabrics really get to show off their full beauty. I’m also working on a blog post about it at the same time, but anyone interested is welcome to take a look:

Best regards, Ina

Yeah, things have gotten a bit quiet. Thanks for the “nudge,” Josefa 🤗

Ina, that mandala blanket is absolutely gorgeous—I’d take it in a heartbeat!

I’m currently working on a baby blanket; I love the colors—and the yarn is so soft and cozy, too; it feels great to knit with.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and warm regards
Sonja

Dear Sonja,
thank you for the compliment. Unfortunately, the mandala fabric was just a scrap. The designer Bine Brändl, who is famous for her colorful creations, designed this fabric—as well as the one with all the bright flowers. Unfortunately, her fabrics are no longer available for purchase. So I’m glad I was able to put this precious scrap to such good use.

I also really like your baby blanket with the elephants. The color gradients are very beautiful. It looks especially nice in combination with white. It’s a shame that double-faced knitting isn’t for me. I tried it, but my fingers just can’t handle working with both strands at the same time.

Could you tell us the name of the yarn you like so much?

Best regards, Ina

Great idea, Ina. I’ll keep that in mind for my future little balcony table.

Thank you so much, Ina. It’s such a shame that this designer no longer offers these fabrics—they really are something special. At least you’ve now beautifully preserved these gems and can enjoy them every day!

The yarn is Merino 200 Bébé by Lang Yarns (color 155.0554). I sometimes have a hard time with 100% merino because it’s often described as “soft,” but personally, I don’t find it soft at all. But this one is really cozy.

I hope you all have a great weekend—hopefully you’re enjoying some lovely sunshine too ☀️

Warm regards
Sonja

Thanks, Sonja, for the info. I’ve added the yarn to my wish list. You’ve chosen a wonderfully warm shade that goes perfectly with the (Indian) elephants and their paintwork.
Best regards, Ina

Hello Ina,
maybe Shweshwe fabrics would be an alternative for you, e.g. on this page: ****Link removed, mod****
However, I first had to wash the fabrics that my sisters-in-law brought me from South Africa before I could work with them.
Best regards
Christiane

Hi,

I’m currently working on three crochet projects at once—I need a little variety. 🤪

A granny sweater—this is my third time making it, using this pattern.
The yellow one is going to be a jacket, using a pattern from a magazine, and the green one is also a jacket, using a pattern from another platform.
The jackets are meant to go with my dresses.

As for sewing, I’m making another heart-shaped pillow—I love having them in bed. They’re comfortable for your neck, under your arm, or between your knees. I’m good at making them, and they go together quickly.
They’re actually support pillows for breast cancer patients. I actually sewed the last one for a neighbor’s mother:

And I’m sewing a parrot:

But I’m not really making much progress.
First because of health issues, now because of a lack of motivation.

Dear Christiane, thank you so much for the tip about the fabric. I hadn’t heard of “Shweshwe fabrics” before. But the internet knows all about them. Great patterns! I’ll have a browse.

Dear Anja, everything always takes time. If you have lots of projects you’ve started, you can at least always continue with whichever one you feel like working on at the moment. I also have projects I’ve started that are still lying around unfinished to this day—they just never quite made it to the top of the list.

I think the idea and execution of the heart pillows are good and helpful. And the parrot has been given beautiful fabrics and colors. I would definitely finish it so it can show off all its beauty.

Best wishes, Ina

I’m designing new granny patterns...with just 5–6 rounds
that only reveal their beauty when you join lots of them together ;)
That’s my specialty! 🌺👍🩷🌲

Yes, Petra, you’re right. Your granny squares really come into their own when grouped together. But I can’t look at them for too long—it makes me dizzy. But you love things as colorful as possible, so that suits you perfectly. Before you can see the overall effect, though, you have to crochet a lot of identical granny squares—but you do that in your sleep :-)

Best regards, Ina

Dear Ina, your tablecloths are beautiful. So wonderfully colorful. Yes, I recognize fabrics one and three right away. I also really like Bine Brändle’s colorful designs. I have her markers for painting stones, and she offers so many great ideas for crafts and sewing.

Petra Perle, your granny squares are great.

You all have some wonderful crafts in the works right now.

Anja, I always have several projects lying next to each other, too. That way, you can switch back and forth, and the main thing is that it gets finished. The journey is the destination.

This was my 41st UFO, which I found in my mess, and I unraveled it. It was stiff and not at all nice.

Now I’ve started a triangular shawl with an airy pattern, and I really like it.

Hi everyone, there are lots of pretty things being made here again.

I have a lot of projects on hold right now—I’m having such a hard time deciding which one to work on.

A crocheted jacket is still missing buttons, and on a sewn jacket, I riveted the snaps incorrectly and am still looking for a solution...
A crocheted heart made from some thick acrylic yarn I was given has stretched out so much after stuffing that the stuffing is showing through everywhere—I’m going to cover it with concrete now...
Some great but old yarn from my sister was held together with rubber bands that crumbled and discolored everything—I wound it into skeins and washed it; let’s see if it’s still usable after it dries.

Two shirts made from scraps...

and I finished a shirt made from an ancient, lightweight cotton fabric.

Oh Claudia, you’ve got quite a few projects to tackle there. I’m curious to see your solutions—especially your heart. Your concrete pieces are truly one-of-a-kind.

I like your shirt; the pink one looks breezy, perfect for summer. It’s sure to become a favorite.

I’d actually been interested in this and was just about to ask.

Thanks for the tip.

@Fun-Design
Dear Claudia, thank you so much for posting the before-and-after photos. When you only see the fabrics in front of you, it’s sometimes hard to picture how they’ll look together. In any case, your airy patchwork tops look great! I especially like that the pink one includes a checkered piece of fabric—it really brings the whole piece to life.

Looking at all this really makes me want to get creative myself. My fabrics and my yarn are waiting. I’m currently switching back and forth between several projects I’ve started: a patchwork bag, a baby blanket, and a pair of thick winter socks. But first, I have to “work” on something else before I can devote myself to my crafts.

Best regards, Ina

Ina, I’m still trying to make something out of the materials I have on hand.
I just have way too much of it... But I’m also learning a lot in the process—for example, which fabrics go well together and how differently various materials can be sewn.
I find that really exciting.
And especially with scraps like these, it’s actually no big deal if it doesn’t turn out right.
Then I can always use it as stuffing.

I’ve also finished casting my crocheted heart made from thick polyacrylic yarn in concrete.
A friend had brought me the red yarn—it was pretty thick, but there wasn’t really much of it.
It was almost enough for one heart; I was missing a few rounds at the end...
But after stuffing it, I didn’t think the result looked that great—the stitches were just too coarse.
So I decided to use concrete and turned it into a pretty outdoor decoration.

Your decoration turned out great. It was definitely worth the effort.

Dear Claudia,
that’s quite a transformation. The crocheted red heart wasn’t bad, but this concrete version—especially with the “buttons” on it—really looks like a work of art. It could be sold in a store just as it is. It wouldn’t stay on display for long and would find a buyer in no time.

Thank you for capturing the transformation process in pictures for us.

Best regards, Ina

First of all, thank you.

I told you about my sister’s old, dirty yarn.
I wound it into skeins, washed it, and then wound it back into balls.

It was worth it; the yarn came out nice and clean.

10 balls with 110 m / 50 g each, which isn’t exactly a small amount—but for my size, it’s not all that much either.
So I crocheted another top-down raglan cardigan from it.
First the sleeves, and then the body as long as the yarn would allow.

I think it turned out well, even though I would have liked it to be a bit longer.

There’s also a matching fabric from my sister’s stash lying around here... I’ve already unpacked the sewing machine 😍.

The jacket turned out beautifully.
Can I let you in on a little secret? I’ve never dared to crochet RVO from the top before. Knitting is no problem for me. I also prefer to knit sweaters and jackets. I don’t really like crocheting big items—as I said, I’d rather wield my knitting needles ;-).

Hi everyone,
Wow—what amazing things are being created here—it’s incredible.

I used to just crochet (even sweaters sometimes), but for the past 2–3 years I’ve been switching back to knitting more; I find it somehow “finer.”  I knitted a shawl from a book using modal and Per Fortuna scraps, and since I still have plenty of scraps left, I made another one in blue right after that
These days, I’m constantly working on “little” projects for my granddaughter—socks, hats, ...

I just can’t seem to get an even stitch pattern—as soon as I set a piece aside and pick it up later, the stitch pattern looks completely different. And I actually prefer knitted clothes…
I don’t have this problem when crocheting.

I sewed a simple dress from my sister’s fabric, and I’m thrilled with how well it goes with the little jacket.
We were at the garden center together this afternoon, and my sister fell in love with the set when I showed it to her.
Well, now I guess I’ll have to make myself something new…
There’s still plenty of fabric lying around.

Claudia, your dress looks great. I’m sure it’s very comfortable. And your awesome jacket is the perfect complement.

When I knit in the round, my stitch pattern turns out much nicer and more even. You can really see it on my pants. The legs were knitted in rows, and the top was knitted in the round.

Claudia, maybe a RVO would be an option for you—you always knit in rounds there. Unfortunately, the stitch pattern here is uneven due to the yarn, so it’s not a good example :-)

Hi,
I tried this out and thought it worked well—you should pull the “purl stitches” a little tighter when knitting (knit more tightly), then the fabric will be more even.

  • @Petra—those panties are so cute! What pattern is that? (I’m always on the lookout for something nice to knit for my granddaughter.) Maybe something for fall
  • @Claudia, the outfit looks like it was meant to be—a perfectly coordinated, great result
  • @devar—hand-sewing… you have my respect—I’m excited to see the finished, complete result

Hi everyone,
I’m currently crocheting a custom order—my “Wandelstück.”
This time I’m using thicker yarn and a thicker crochet hook. I’m excited to see how it turns out 🥰🧶

Hi everyone,

I’m really impressed by everything you’re making! These are truly amazing pieces and such great inspiration!
I’m currently knitting the Dia de los Muertos socks by Pandamasche-Anika_Grobe from this site, with a few slight modifications. One is already finished, and the second one is almost at the heel. I love the colorful yarn (from Ponderosa, which unfortunately no longer exists 😭)!
Have a great day,
Katrin

@Katrin – wow, your socks are awesome. Both the skulls—amazing—and the stripes on the soles. Are you working slipped stitches here?

I’ve finished my first summer shawl. 50 grams from my stash—99% cotton—I love this yarn

The color isn’t quite my style, but I’m sure this shawl will find a new home by the next market day at the latest.

I’m always searching forever for the craft group—wasn’t it pinned nicely at the top before?

I just clicked that “Watchlist” arrow… but where is it?
I thought that would get me to the group faster…

I’ve made these “wind spinners” too—they look great on your tree. Unfortunately, mine are sitting in the closet; I only have a balcony and haven’t found the right spot for them yet. Maybe I’ll just give them away.

Today I finished the toilet paper roll hat using this pattern: https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/items/101503/klorollenhut-madame-de-toilette. Unfortunately, I’m not really happy with it, so I’ll give it another try in a different color.
I think it’s just too big for the toilet paper rolls available now—they’re getting smaller and smaller these days (oh dear)—so I’ll probably have to adjust the circumference and height :-).
