Today, I happened to come across a video of a woman knitting. She had stitch markers in her work, and my eyes nearly popped out of my head.
I’ve been knitting for over 50 years and have mostly used threads instead of stitch markers because I found them too cumbersome. I always placed the markers around the stitches, which meant I had to reposition them every row or round. NOW I see that the markers are simply placed on the needle and can be carried along with the needle on every row.
I’m laughing my head off!!!
Have any of you had a similar experience? I’m always interested in new tips.
Warm regards
Petra
I make little loops out of leftover cotton yarn. They don’t get in the way while knitting and move easily along the needle. Another advantage: you always have loops in different colors or sizes.
Kind regards

Yes, dear Petra, I can understand your amazement. Sometimes we have a lightbulb moment and think, “Yes, that’s it! Why haven’t we always done it this way?”
I’ve had one of those “aha” moments too, complete with an incredulous shake of the head. After I’d been using my sewing machine for two years, I picked up the manual for some reason. But my problem wasn’t explained well enough there. So I turned to the internet and watched a few videos.
A nice man from a sewing machine store explained how my machine worked. And lo and behold, he demonstrated the “lock stitch” function. His machine had this great button with a dot to activate the lock stitch. You secure the thread in place at the beginning or end. So not three stitches backward. You sometimes need that when you want it to be completely inconspicuous. While watching the video, I thought to myself, “Oh, that’s a nice feature. I’d like to have that, too.”
I admired HIS machine because of that great feature. When I took a closer look at my machine later, I saw that my sewing machine had a button like that, too. I just hadn’t realized what it was for until then. It wasn’t specifically mentioned in the manual either. So I tried it out right away. And lo and behold, MY machine could do it. I just didn’t know it until then. For two years, it had been right under my nose, but it only revealed itself to me later. Today, I proudly use this feature whenever I need it.
My grandpa always called that “being blind to the obvious” or “not seeing the forest for the trees” 😊
But that’s happened to me too, and it’s actually totally normal 😁😁😁—and it didn’t hurt anyone 😉 😉
For a long time, I was annoyed that my camera—even with all sounds turned off—still made noise when I pressed the shutter button.
Until at some point I read something online about an “electronic shutter.”
So I looked for the corresponding setting, and ever since then, the camera has been silent when I press the shutter button.
