I’m looking for someone to take a look at my pattern :)

Hi everyone :)

I (formerly SchokoCookie91 :)) have finally decided on a name and have finished the business registration process.
So... Before I release my first pattern to the public, I wanted to ask if anyone (preferably one of the amigurumi veterans—someone who’s seen a lot of patterns :)) would be willing to skim through it to see if it seems clear :) It’s for the amigurumi ladies in the photo—the little angel and the little devil :)
If anyone (1–2 people at most) is willing to help, I’d be happy to send the pattern to them (for free, of course ;)) via email! :)

I’m so unsure if it’s clear enough! :D

Best wishes, and have a lovely evening, everyone!

Tina

Hi Tina... I’d be happy to, but I won’t be back from vacation until August 5th, so I’ll be able to check it on my computer then. If you’d like, and the timing works out, I’d be happy to do it.

I’d be happy to help, too—I’m experienced when it comes to amigurumi

Great, I’ll send it to both of you! Thank you so much! :)
Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone personally who can crochet ;)

Hi Tina!

If you still need help, I’d be happy to take a look at it.

Otherwise: good luck with your shop!

Best wishes—Nina

Hi Tina,

I can put you in touch with a top test crocheter who would be more than happy to thoroughly test your pattern—and do it very quickly. I’ve been working with her for a long time. So if you’re looking for someone who’s absolutely trustworthy, just let me know.

Hi Krea_Tine, one option is to ask people to pattern-test for you, whether through forums or various Facebook groups. You’ll usually get good feedback there, since most people are happy to receive the free pattern. And here’s something else I think is important: you’ll also get feedback from beginners. Experts can handle certain things just fine, but beginners might struggle with them—and when you’re writing a pattern, you don’t necessarily realize that those are potential problems.

Oh, I have to say something briefly about this.
It’s extremely dangerous to look for testers on Facebook. I’ve noticed many times now that patterns are copied or shared, especially via Facebook.
I would strongly advise against it.
It’s a much better idea to look for testers on forums like this one....

Hi,
I tried that at the beginning too—using Facebook to find reliable test crocheters. The result was 50 people who all really wanted to participate and, hard to believe, I still haven’t received a reply from them to this day. I tested this with a free pattern and sent it out generously. Facebook is no longer an option for me. I found my current test crocheters through *word of mouth*. Or by chance after some nice email exchanges. And the rest came together within my family. From beginners to pros—we have it all—and I think that’s important.

Hey there!

I’ve also looked for test crocheters on Facebook before.
I ended up choosing 6 ladies, 2 of whom gave very thorough and helpful feedback, 1 gave only moderate feedback, 1 did crochet but only shared photos very sporadically, and 2 didn’t respond at all about how they were getting along with the pattern, etc.
One was supposedly always sick, or her child was… but she was constantly posting other crochet projects on Facebook...
And only the first two actually did the requested promotion on their pages...
I won’t be putting out a call there anymore. If I ever have people test crochet again, I’ll go through other channels...

Best regards

I was lucky with my Facebook post back then, and I still have the test crocheters I got to know there today.

I’d love to volunteer for this. I crochet lots of things for my two little ones, and recently I’ve started knitting for them, too. Since I’m at home on parental leave, I have plenty of time for it.

If you’d like, I’d be happy to do that.
A little bit about me:
I’ve recently retired and, in addition to having some experience in crocheting and knitting (40 years), I’ve also taken on a part-time job as an editor because I used to teach German.
So I hope I meet all the requirements and can be of help to you.
Of course, I’m not infallible either.
All the best
Ulrike

That sounds great! Can I get in touch with you too when I have something else for test knitting or crocheting? I switch up my testers every now and then so no “tunnel vision” sets in. ;-)

Hello everyone,
I’m 39, and I’ve been crocheting, knitting, and embroidering since elementary school. I make a lot of things for my children, our daycare association, and as donations, for example for auctions benefiting DKMS or for a child in a vegetative state. For me, crocheting is a balance to everyday life, and if you’re still looking for crochet pattern testers, I’d be happy to join in. So far, I’ve worked from German and English patterns; I did learn French at school, but I haven’t used it for patterns yet.
I’ve also written patterns myself, but only for private use.
If there’s still a need, I’d be very happy to become a tester.
Best regards
Jutta

Dear all,

I’d also be happy to volunteer as a tester!
I’ve been knitting and crocheting since I was 6 years old, and needlework is (unfortunately) the only hobby I have left at the moment (toddler & university studies). My little daughter (2) has already started “playing” at crocheting! She sits on her sofa, grabs a hook and a ball of yarn, and claims she’s making a hat for Mommy... ;D
I have a degree in linguistics, and outside of my parental leave, I work in the technical editing department of a publishing house—my job is to make sure texts “look good”! Formatting, layout, consistency (e.g. in bullet points and abbreviations)...
Even if in some cases I can’t manage quick revisions straight away, I can still “spruce up” the text within 1–2 days. So if there’s a need, just let me know! ;)

Best regards,
Magda

Hi Tina

My name is Gaby. I’ve been crocheting for several years now, following all kinds of patterns, including dolls. You can find pictures of my work on Facebook. If you’d like, I’d be happy to take a look at your pattern.

Best regards, Gaby

Hello, if you’d like, I’d be happy to take a look at your pattern; I’ve been crocheting for my grandchildren for many years now. Feel free to also
take a look at my profile or at Sabesa-Manufaktur for schöne Handarbeiten. Talk soon... Best regards, Bettina

Wow, first of all, thank you so much to everyone for the offer—it’s really amazing how many friendly people are here :)

I’m going to wait for the replies so far and then revise the pattern accordingly :) I might come back to someone later, but it doesn’t make sense to send them out to even more people if there are still known “mistakes” in there :)

(And besides, I’ll have the next pattern ready soon :))

Hi, so I’ve actually been knitting, crocheting, sewing, and embroidering since I was a kid. My mom and grandma taught me. Until two years ago, I hardly ever crocheted—until I got hooked on crocheting after wanting to make a Boshi hat. Now amigurumi are my passion. I love testing new patterns. Writing my own isn’t my thing. I enjoy trying out different patterns.
Back when my mom still had a yarn shop, I was always the one who found the mistakes in the patterns. When it comes to knitting, I like lace best.
I enjoy testing patterns.

@Krea_Tina
Fix the errors you notice yourself, but then definitely have it tested again. Because what is clear to you isn’t necessarily clear to everyone else.
As a rule, I have every pattern test-knitted or test-crocheted several times, and you wouldn’t believe the occasional careless mistakes you end up putting in yourself...
Even if it means it takes a little longer before you can put your pattern online—in the long run it pays off, because with error-free and easy-to-understand patterns you’ll also have satisfied customers, and word like that gets around. And word of mouth is the best advertising. ☺

I’m passionate about crocheting. I’m 62 years old and (unfortunately) still working at the moment, but hopefully that will change soon. I do believe I’m qualified to judge whether a pattern is practical to follow. Amigurumi are my passion. You can count on me for a detailed review as well as suggestions for improvement. Feel free to reach out to me if you’d like.
Best regards,
Uschimaus

Hey there, I haven’t read all the posts, and maybe someone has already shared my thought with you... I’m a somewhat experienced crocheter :) That means I can crochet from a pattern, but I’m still a little short on courage when it comes to my own creativity... I’ve also had patterns where I noticed that something wasn’t quite right. Don’t you need someone like that too!? The experienced crocheters compensate for it and just carry on, while beginners put it aside and think, “Okay, I didn’t get it.”... and then there’s my group ;) With those comments, you could maybe ask the experienced ones whether or how it could perhaps be worded differently, so if you still have a need for that, let me know
Otherwise, good luck with your first patterns, I’m sure it’ll be a great start, and the first ones are always the most important
