I have an illustrated pattern on how to sew in a zipper. Petra’s post reminded me that I still had
something like this on my hard drive.
Picture 1: Place the zipper right sides together on the outer fabric, i.e. the zipper teeth must be facing down. Pin it in place, then place the lining fabric on top so that you can no longer see the zipper, as in Picture 2. Pin it in place and then stitch the zipper. Do the same with the other side of the little bag. Once the zipper is sewn in, turn the whole thing over so that the right, outer side is facing up. Iron it flat and topstitch the zipper from the right side, close to the edge.
Then lay the bag so that the outer fabric is on top of itself and the lining is on top of itself. Leave about 4–5 cm open at the bottom of the lining; this will be the turning opening. Remember that the zipper should not be completely closed, otherwise you’ll have a hard time opening it when turning. Then sew the bag all the way around up to the turning opening. Turn the bag right side out, check whether everything has been caught properly, and then close the turning opening. Iron it and you have a little bag with a sewn-in zipper.
Best regards, Inge
