Dear users, dear authors,
Are you having summer weather? Has summer maybe been worth it for you—if not weather-wise, then in some other way?
How is crafting going in the current temperatures? Have you already browsed through the new patterns in the Crazypatterns shop? Here are the highlights of the July patterns.
Tell me a bit about how things are going for you.
Well, this isn’t exactly much of a summer, but I prefer the cooler temperatures to the summer heat, since I really can’t handle that well.
Plus, I can work on my designs without “sweaty hands” and don’t have to take any forced breaks. ;-)
I feel the same way as Michaela... It doesn’t really feel like summer—more like April weather :-(. But that gives me more time to crochet, lets me finish my orders faster, and the yarn is more pleasant to work with.
Bottom line: bad weather does have its advantages after all :-)
The weather here isn’t actually that bad. It’s not sweltering, but that’s not really necessary anyway.
I’ve had to adjust a bit. I usually like to work with animal-based yarns (alpaca, merino, mohair), but that’s only really possible to a limited extent in these temperatures. I picked up a few summer yarns so my hands can keep bringing to life the ideas swirling around in my head.
Since we’re not going on vacation this year, you can look forward to a thing or two.
I also prefer it when it’s not so hot. It makes crocheting easier for me, and a little bad weather now and then is actually good—then I can sit quietly at the computer writing patterns and creating crochet charts.
Right now I’m working with cotton yarn—it just goes well with summer.
I’m happy with how the summer’s been so far.
My only regret is that my new designs aren’t really getting much attention from customers right now; I’d be happy if that improved. I truly believe they’re definitely worth checking out.
This is only the second summer in about 30 years that I’ve had virtually no hay fever, and I’m enjoying being able to breathe freely every day with the windows open! This is still very new to me, and it’s so wonderful! Oh yes, summer is definitely worth it! No matter what the weather is like.
I handle the heat very well—it’s only when it gets to 40°C that it gets a little too warm even for me :-), but since I’ve gotten my feet used to being bare and they don’t get cold as easily anymore, even the cool weather doesn’t bother me much anymore. So I’m happy with summer—everything is beautifully green, everything smells wonderful, the birds are chirping—what more could you want?
I actually quite like summer the way it’s turning out.
You can go outside with the kids without getting roasted, and without worrying that just the thought of going outside might put the little ones at risk of sunburn ;).
As long as it’s dry, I’m fine with temperatures around 20 degrees.
Sure, hot days for the outdoor pool are nice too, and I hope we’ll have a few hot days on our vacation in Belgium so we can go in the sea, but I don’t need that all the time.
It’s just the constant changes in air pressure that are bothering me right now—probably "given the circumstances" *laughs*—I keep getting headaches.
Hi, I think summer is almost perfect. It’s good for nature, and for me too—I really can’t handle temperatures above 25 degrees. And it’s okay for the kids, too; that way, all our outings don’t turn into “sunburn-too-hot” trips. Sure, higher temperatures would be better for splashing around, but there’s still so much else you can do. Besides, summer is still long—we’ve got all of August and September ahead of us. And I think it’ll get warmer starting in mid-August. The seasons have just shifted.
Right now, I’m working hard on Christmas projects. It’s funny, but all the ideas I have at the moment are just for winter. I’ll have to wait and see if it’s really worth it :-)
I see it the same way as berlidesign. Summer is good for nature. The last few years have been so dry here that the forest at the back of the mountain has lost a good 10%. And this year, it has a chance to recover.
And I’m fine with any kind of weather. I live by the motto: there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong attitude. The kids just put on an extra layer and keep playing outside as usual.
And I’m using a day like today to finally figure out the dragon’s feet for my daughter’s dream dragon. That huge thing is supposed to stand on two legs. That needs some careful thought. And when it’s not so hot, it’s much easier to think things through.
But I feel exactly the same way. Anything over 25° is pure torture. Who wants to handle squeaky embroidery needles or crochet hooks with sweaty hands? And curse your swollen feet while doing it? And have warm wool on your lap? I might as well just get a cat (giggle). I think that’s just fine. I guess we Northern Germans aren’t really into heat and sunburn.
To be honest, surprisingly well :) But maybe that’s because this year’s summer has been more warm than sunny! We haven’t really had weeks of 30-degree temperatures yet. But as I already wrote, it’s been quite nice.
Am I the only one here who really likes it hot?
I love it when it’s really warm and being able to spend the whole day and half the night outside.
I spent the last hot summer sitting in a lounge chair, knitting and crocheting.
And this year, I’ve been wondering if moving abroad might be an option... :-)
I’m enjoying each day as it comes. If the weather’s not so great, that’s okay too.
But on a sunny summer day like today, it’s time to head out to the garden.
Crocheting on a lounge chair under the apple tree is a great option (with an iced coffee, of course).[Image removed]
It’s already too hot for me again today. At temperatures like this, I only go outside when I absolutely have to. I’ve moved our dog walks to the early morning and late evening hours. If Flocke does need to go out in between, I make sure she walks in the shade and on the grass as much as possible.
Unfortunately, I tend to get headaches when it’s too hot, so I love days when it’s around 20° with a light breeze—that’s the perfect weather for me. ☺
@wollness oase I agree with you. I’m really suffering from the heat right now. I’m not very active at the moment either. It’s just too hot. Everything sticks to you, my joints are swelling, and moving around is a struggle. I think I should move south: to South Greenland
It was about 35 degrees today, and that’s definitely too hot for our part of the world. I like it warm, too, but when it gets over 30 degrees, it’s just too much. What’s bothered me most of all in recent years is this extreme back-and-forth. It’s not like you can slowly adjust to anything.
We sat in the garden until noon today and then went inside; I’d already prepared lunch this morning, took a little nap, and am now relaxing and enjoying the evening. Now we’re letting some fresh air into the house and hoping it’ll be a bit more comfortable tomorrow.
Well, I actually prefer it to be on the warmer side. Temperatures around 35 degrees are just right for me.
Unfortunately, I lived at sea level for the first 32 years of my life and have been living at 980 meters above sea level for about 6 years now. And I still notice the difference in altitude, especially in the summer.
When it gets above 35 degrees up here, I tend to get headaches and suffer from sunstroke in no time.
That makes me look forward all the more to my vacation back home. I can handle the weather better there.
It’s pretty hot here today, and I’m waiting for a thunderstorm.
Strangely enough, the textured yarn I’m working with right now is actually pleasant to work with in these temperatures—I wouldn’t have thought so. It’s almost too hot for me to be outside, but since the yarn is black with long fuzz, I need daylight so I don’t end up crocheting in the dark… still, I’m looking forward to the evening.
And as Petra already said: these temperature swings are no good… it’s either sauna weather or socks and a vest.
