Dear authors, dear users,
what’s the deal with mohair? Is it even suitable for crafts? What do you need to keep in mind?
Please share your thoughts here in this thread. Have fun!
I use mohair every now and then to crochet “wigs” for Waldorf dolls.
It’s a bit fiddly because the stitches are hard to see, especially with darker yarn, but with practice it works out just fine. Unraveling is practically impossible.
I’m passionate about knitting with Kid Mohair and silk,
since I’m very sensitive to materials that are scratchy or shed while knitting (causing breathing difficulties). I discovered this wonderful material while knitting lace shawls. The lace-weight yarn goes a very long way—25g/approx. 210m—(for my lace ponchos, I need 2½–3 skeins, which cost about 30 euros). It goes just as well with jeans as it does with a ball gown, can be worn on cool summer days as well as in the cold winter, and its coziness warms
the soul. I think you just have to be careful not to use needles that are too thin (that was my mistake when I first started). To care for it, I use a few drops of good wool shampoo and cold water.Don’t squeeze it too much!!
After rinsing, I let the garment sit in the sink for another 10 minutes or so and gently press it now and then so that as much water as possible can drain off
as possible. Then I hang it on a hanger in the breeze, block it, or lay it flat to dry. Depending on the design, this might sound like a lot of work, but it’s definitely worth it for such a beautiful piece—and you don’t have to do it that often anyway. I just finished a red lace poncho with beads and cast off a turquoise poncho that I knitted loosely with thick needles using double strands of yarn (next
winter is sure to come). Like I said, I love this material.
I pasted the text in again in a new font; maybe it will work better this way. If you could then remove the other one, that would be nice. Thanks
I love knitting with kid mohair with silk because I am very sensitive to scratchy material or material that sheds while knitting (respiratory
problems). I discovered this wonderful material through knitting lace shawls. The lace-weight yarn goes a very long way -25 g/about 210 m- (for my lace ponchos I need
2½-3 balls/that’s about 30 euros) It goes just as well with jeans as with a ball gown, can be worn on cool summer days as well as in
the cold of winter, and the cozy factor warms the soul. I think you should just make sure not to use needles that are too thin (that was
my beginner’s mistake back then). For care, I use a few drops of good wool shampoo and cold water.Don’t squeeze it too much!! After rinsing, I leave the piece in the sink for another 10 minutes and press it gently every now and then
so that as much water as possible drains away. After that it is blocked or laid flat to
dry. That sounds very time-consuming, but it’s definitely worth it for a beautiful piece and doesn’t have to be done
that often. I have just finished weaving in the ends on a red lace poncho with beads and have bound off a turquoise poncho, knitted loosely double-stranded with thick needles
(the next winter is sure to come).
As I said, I love this material.
Well, Word always adds weird formatting.
Do you happen to have WordPad or a text editor? You can write longer texts in those, save them every now and then—they don’t save automatically—but they don’t have any formatting, which makes it easier to copy and paste.
I can’t delete posts completely, only edit them.
Do you want to keep the top one or the bottom one?
it's six of one, half a dozen of the other; both are awful :))
but that's only the case here; everywhere else (where I tend to zip around) it works without any problems.
Well, our forum is a bit quirky at times, but it’s definitely not run-of-the-mill—it’s something really special, and you can have a ton of fun here in the forum and in the shop. I just wanted to say that, even if it’s off-topic. :-)
I’ll just leave both of your posts up for now. Then people will just read the text twice :-)
