Ines, I know what you mean about switching computers. I just went through that myself. It takes a lot of time. But there’s one advantage: I didn’t take a lot of stuff with me and basically cleared things out right away. That feels good, too. I’m sure you feel the same way.

Ruth, I’m really glad to hear you feel the same way about knitting needles. I’ve tried so many different ones. But for some reason, I never stick with them for long. I’ve since found another solution that I really like. The circular needles are all hanging sideways on my dinette—it’s one of those rolling double trays. On top of that are my baskets with leftover yarn and odds and ends, plus a few small wooden boxes that hold things like crochet hooks and the like. That way, I always have everything right at my fingertips. There’s also a template with the needle sizes there. That way, I can measure the right size right away using the hanging circular needles.
Your temperature blanket is changing colors now, too—I’m curious to see how it continues and what it’ll look like in a few months.
Your embroidery looks absolutely gorgeous. That’s a real test of patience. It reminds me of when I used to embroider back when my son was little. And the little Easter bunnies on the lids—once again, very pretty, just like everything you make.

Today I’m finishing the first nest for the wildlife. More will follow. I’ll post a photo later, once it’s completely finished. There are still a few rounds left to go.

Here is the photo of the nest—first showing the total height when crocheted, and then with the edge folded over.

Hello everyone,
things are getting a bit quieter here on the forum—spring is luring us outside. But in the evenings, there’s still time to enjoy some cozy crafting.

Dear Ruth, I think the embroidery of your grandchildren is so brilliant! You can already recognize them quite clearly. I think it’s such a great project. Later on, when they’re all grown up and have children of their own, it will always be a very special memory.

I really like your temperature blanket—such a beautiful green. The one on my blanket is white (everything at 0 degrees and below). I only took the photo in the evening, so my camera couldn’t capture the colors very well. I’ll take another photo in daylight soon.

With your loop, I keep wondering if you didn’t cast on way too many stitches. I’ve knitted it several times myself and have never had that many stitches. My highest stitch count was 240. But I’m sure you calculated it beforehand and are knitting with very fine needles. Knitting so many fine stitches is certainly a challenge. But next winter, it’ll be just as cozy, soft, and warm around your neck. You can switch back and forth between your craft projects so you don’t get bored.

I also think the bunnies on the candy jar lids are cute. I’m sure the kids will love them.

Dear Monika, do the wild animals accept your crocheted nest? And is it made of real wool or acrylic? Maybe they have preferences about what they’d use to build a nest? The animals here prefer to gather their own straw and other materials from all over and use them to build their own nests. If I leave scraps of felted wool lying around outside, they love to use those for building too, because they’re so easy to pull apart.

I wish all readers a wonderful day.
Warm regards from Ina

Here’s a recent photo of my temperature blanket :-) Right now, I’m crocheting the contrasting color to mark the change of the month, and then I’ll add a shade of green for today’s 11 degrees.

Dear Ina,

the nests aren’t meant for our own birds, of course, but mainly for injured birds and other animals that are being nursed back to health. The nests go to rehabilitation centers, which are very grateful to receive them. They must be washed beforehand at 60 degrees and can be made of wool blended with acrylic or just acrylic. I always use 2–3 strands of yarn so they turn out nice and sturdy. Of course, that really strains my arm, and I can already feel it.

Last year I crocheted a lot of these nests, and now I’ll be using up some leftover yarn that’s perfect for this.

I’m going to knit 1 or 2 squirrel dreys from my leftover felting yarn and then felt them. Many squirrels are found abandoned because, for example, their mother was hit by a car.

You might be wondering how I came up with this idea. I got the tip here, but I don’t even remember who gave it to me anymore. I’m in a private Facebook group where wildlife rehabilitators are connected with crafters. So I also know where the nests are going. It’s really a great initiative, and I’ve even received photos of my nests with their inhabitants. That’s a stroke of luck, though. I just feel good about doing my part. The group has a very harmonious and loving atmosphere, and it’s a joy to look at all the photos. There are some crafters in the group who, for example, sew—not for birds, but for other small or injured animals. These are either dreys or other types of shelters. They also sew “cuddle buddies” because some small animals feel lonely, and these provide comfort for them. Yes, I’ve learned a lot about wildlife care (injured animals) there.

Well, enough about that. Your temperature blanket is starting to get interesting now. I’m curious to see how it turns out.

Monika, that sounds very interesting. Maybe you could post a photo of one of your “inhabited nests” sometime?

Ruth, here are a few photos. I received a really cute calendar from the wildlife carers as a thank-you gift for Christmas. So I took some pictures of it. The first nest could easily have been made by me.

Something went wrong with the photos. The last nest looks just like the nests I crochet.

Oh, that’s so cute, Monika! I think the bunny with the stuffed animal is especially cute.

Oh, that’s so adorable, Monika! I’ve been wanting to make something like that too, but so far I’ve been short on time and motivation—though those cute pictures are definitely inspiring me. I’m sure I’ll get around to it eventually.  I’m still waiting for my computer, and then I’ll have to clean out my external drive. After that, I have a grooming appointment with my “dog grandchild”—it’s that little Yorkie’s turn again. Luckily, I was able to do some needlework again this evening, and I hope to be able to show you my creations soon.

Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Well, I’m checking in again…

Monika, how cute are these!!! I think it’s a great idea that the carers show the helpers how the nests are used. That really motivates you to keep going. It’s great that you’re staying so dedicated to this! On top of all the other projects you’re still managing to complete—kudos!

Ina, the second cardigan looks fantastic, too! The yarn is gorgeous anyway, but I really like the style as well. It looks cozy and really chic at the same time. It’s exciting to see how the temperature blanket is slowly gaining color. I’m sure that many months from now, while knitting, memories of those beautiful spring-like days in February 2020 will come flooding back.

Ines, moving your computer is a pain—we all know that. Until everything’s back where it belongs, aaaaargh. But as Monika says, it always offers a chance to clean out old files, maybe reorganize them… Afterward, it’s all the more wonderful to have a new—and probably faster—device. By the way, your bathroom turned out absolutely wonderful—you can be really proud of it! I’m sure you’re enjoying it every day, much more than if the contractors had done it all.

Ruth, your embroidery is a real labor of love—wow. It’s already beautiful and will be one of those truly exquisite pieces of handiwork that are especially precious to you! So cute how the two of them are cuddling together and grinning at the camera :-)

I’ve now finished a protective case for my daughter’s Kindle. She could have picked one out at the big A, but she’d rather have one I knitted for her. Aww :-) Well, in two or three years, she’ll probably run away the moment she sees me with knitting needles. But until then, I’ll keep knitting for her whenever I can :-) I’m making one for myself, too, in slightly more subtle colors.

Have a lovely evening!

But that bird motif is really cute, and the colors are perfect for a girl. Sonja, you might be surprised—your daughter will still be delighted by your creations years from now and ask you, “Mom, can’t you please, please…”

Ina, your weather blanket already looks absolutely beautiful. I’m always happy to see your progress—how the colors look and change. The next colors are coming soon; I can’t wait to see them. By the way, I thought your idea with the circular knitting needles was great. A fantastic way to finally bring some order to the mess. I’ve stashed mine in little bags, but that solution isn’t nearly as organized.

Monika, my calendar from the Päpplers is hanging in my office, and I enjoy looking at it every day. I already have some felting wool ready to go. Since the felt shoes aren’t turning out quite the way I’d imagined, I’ll be crocheting squirrel dreys out of it soon.

Sonja, great to see the finished cover now! I just ordered some needles and will only continue knitting once they arrive—there are too many stitches crammed onto the CraSyTrio, so it’s getting tedious. Yes, I get to test-knit the cover for Sonja, and I’ve already had quite a few failed attempts because the yarn (from my stash) didn’t work and the piece turned out too wide. Now I hope I’ve found the right yarn.

Sonja, your e-reader case turned out really beautiful. I’m looking forward to test-knitting it now. Yesterday I picked out some cotton from my stash and plan to give it to my friend as a gift. I’m curious to see how it looks when it’s finished. I’m having the same problem as Christina with the CraSyTrio. However, my little circular needle broke at the cable yesterday (Knit Pro). I’ve ordered a new one, which should arrive in two days. Until then, I’ll keep going with the three needles.

Oh Petra, yes, it was you who introduced me to the wildlife rehabbers. It’s great that you’re getting active again, too. Once the nests are finished, I’ll knit at least one more drey; I should still have enough felting yarn for that. I’m really very happy to make this contribution, and while I’m crocheting, I already imagine little birds sitting inside them.

Ruth, I think the bunny photo is totally cute, too. It must have been an injured rabbit—and it has a cuddly buddy in the nest so it doesn’t feel so alone. I think that’s a really sweet idea.

Ines, you’re in the wildlife rehab group, too. You only need to browse through the posts there—the photos really make you want to get crafting. I’m always amazed at the beautiful things the seamstresses create.

Hello everyone,

I can finally write again as usual. Sorting things out took a little more time than I thought, but you don’t want to have all of that on the new PC either.

Sonja, the cover turned out really pretty. The colors and the motif, everything goes together perfectly. Thanks also for your feedback on the bathroom; we enjoy it every day. Anything else would be a shame, haha.

Monika, yes, I’m also in the “Päppler” group, and I’ve now gathered up my thicker leftover yarn that I could use for it. I’ll somehow fit that in, since you don’t have to design anything for it and you don’t have to concentrate too hard either, so I’ll manage it and use up my leftovers with crochet.

In the meantime, I’ve finished 2 new projects, and I’d like to show them to you. This is the police officer, who is now standing on my husband’s desk at work. He has already gone down well with his colleagues

and I didn’t find the cardboard tissue box in the bathroom very decorative either, so to match all the other storage baskets, I made a cover for it as well

before I start the floppy toy for my daughter’s friend, I’m going to make a toilet roll cover for the car. Our friend loves Pauli the Mole, so let’s see what it looks like in the end.

Now I wish you all a pleasant day

Ines, your police officer is so cool! He looks like he’s about to pull out a ticket :-) But I’d gladly accept a ticket from him ;-) The cover you whipped up “quickly” is great again, too.

I’ve finished the cover for my own e-reader.

Have a wonderful afternoon, everyone!

Whoa Sonja, if I could beam that cover over to me, it would be gone and wrapped around my Tolino—those are my colors... so beautiful

HM, luckily my policeman hasn't given me any tickets personally yet :-)

Ines, I’m blown away by your police officer. It’s a real work of art! I can totally imagine your husband’s coworkers loving it. And your tissue holder looks great, too.

Sonja, your second cover is also very pretty. I actually like the colors even better than the first one.

After I almost gave up on knitting it last night, I found a new solution today. I had to unravel everything because the cover would have turned out way too big. Today I went through my stash and actually found something suitable. It’s thin sock yarn in light green and yellow. The contrasts probably won’t be as strong, but oh well. I’ve started it now, and luckily it’s the size I need. Here’s what the colors look like:

Another animal nest is finished, and the third one still needs to be twice as tall (it should be 10 cm high because it will be folded over).

Now that I’ve received the needles, I can continue knitting my case—unless I decide to switch materials after all. Sonja, I really like the second one, and yours too, Monika.

Hallo Ihr Lieben,
It’s always exciting here—full of colorful new ideas, as usual.

Right now, I like Ines’s police officer best. He’s really so cool. Word gets around the station when you have him as a decoration on your desk. He even has little handcuffs and his thumb tucked coolly into the belt loop of his pants. He looks very stern and even has muscles—so he’s definitely a worthy police officer. Absolutely fantastic!

The tissue box cover looks great, too. And it fits perfectly in the new bathroom.

I also think Sonja’s two Tolino covers are gorgeous. I love both color combinations and the patterns—they’re so light and spring-like, and simply beautiful. And yours is even personalized—that makes it look even more special. If your daughter starts showing it off everywhere, you’ll definitely have to knit a few more. But I think this is a lovely knitting project because it’s manageable and not too big.

I’m curious to see what the other versions by Monika and Christina will look like. Yes, you always need the right yarn and the right tools so that a project is fun and you end up with something beautiful.

Monika, thank you so much for your insights on the “Päppler.” I find that really interesting and useful. I never would have thought that animal lovers would come together online for initiatives like this and then actually put them into action. So with every little basket you make for the Päppler, you already know while you’re crocheting or knitting that a baby animal will one day benefit from it—yes, maybe you’re even saving lives with it. Huge kudos to you and your fellow volunteers!

I’ve finished the cardigan for my friend. I still have to sew on the pockets; they’re just tacked on for now. Maybe I’ll knit a narrow belt to go with it. The only fastener is a wool brooch that you thread through both layers. But really, this is a cardigan meant to be worn open. I still need to find a matching wool brooch, though. I had to use a different one for the photo.

I hope everyone has a lovely afternoon.

Warm regards from Ina

Wow, you’ve all made such beautiful things again!

Sonja, those two cases for the e-reader turned out great! I especially like the pattern—it’s so delicate.
I once crocheted a case for my phone, though the pattern on mine is embroidered:

Monika and Christina, I’m also excited to see your cases. The colors already look promising. It’s always interesting how differently the same pattern looks in different colors!

Ines, your police officer is truly top-notch! How big did it turn out to be?

Ina, I could just snatch that cardigan for your friend right off the screen! The colors are so great, and I really like the open style. Did you knit it longer than your own, or is that just my impression?

I hope you all have a wonderful evening!

Ina, your jacket would be perfect for me too, though I’d need a belt for it.
I want to knit something similar for next winter. It has to be long and come up nice and high at the neck. It’ll have pockets, too. I’m going to ask for the yarn for my birthday and I’m already really looking forward to it.

Yeah, I was also amazed at how many animal lovers there are who are working so hard to sew, knit, or crochet shelters for wild animals. I’m just a small part of that. And what I also think is really great is that there are people who put a lot of time into organizing the whole thing. It really brings me joy to imagine, while I’m crocheting, that a little injured animal will one day be sitting inside. I do need to take a break every now and then, though, because working with 2–3 strands at once really takes a toll on my wrists. So a nice knitting project on the side comes in handy.

Christina, I’m curious to see your cover and what kind of yarn you’re using. For me, the only thing that worked size-wise was thin sock yarn.

Wow, so much has happened here again, I can hardly stop being amazed.

ines Your policeman is awesome. I have a school friend who works for the criminal police; she would certainly be happy to have a policeman like that too. Will there be a pattern for it at some point? I really want to crochet him. I’d most like to snatch him away from you right now, he turned out that great.

sonja, your DF cover looks stunning. The motif and the color choice. I’m always amazed at how you all manage to do that. I like it.

Ina, your cardigan turned out so beautiful. Pleasant “warm” colors. I’d like that one too. It makes you want to cuddle right into it.
Your temperature blanket is slowly taking on color now; I’m excited to see what it looks like when it’s finished.

I only crocheted up leftover yarn with mosaic crochet. (Pictures in the Reste-Beste thread)

then I wish everyone a pleasant afternoon with your handcrafts

best wishes from cold Norway

Ruth, I’m getting a yarn gift card that I can redeem later. That’s exactly what I wanted. I plan to stick with my “yarn diet” until May—that’ll make it 1 1/2 years.

I wish you all a wonderful evening!
I’m about to pick up my knitting needles. :)

Good morning, everyone!

First of all, thank you so much for the feedback on the police officer—it really made me very happy.

Ruth , he turned out to be 46 cm.

Andrea, my husband is also in a criminal investigation department, luckily not homicide....there will be a pattern soon; for now, it’s still on my handwritten notepad waiting to be written up.

I’ve just been admiring your creations. The blankets are coming along nicely, and my rug has now had its first few rounds too. Since I’ve always written down all the figures, it’ll only be worth showing later, though, because I only crochet 2 rows per week and use the average figures for that.

Ina, the cardigan is soooo beautiful. I already loved the first cardigan you knitted for yourself, and here with No. 2, the warm colors are so wonderful that if I had yarn like that right now, I’d start straight away. I like the open style, and the pockets too, which I absolutely need because I always carry a few things around with me :-)

Monika, you’re hard at work again, and I also like your color choice for the e-reader cover. The animal baskets are multiplying too :-)
It always amazes me how things work in the group, everything is so lovingly done.
I still have the project, or rather by chance I also found someone who takes my prototypes for raffles at the animal shelter, where auctions / bazaars are held to support animal shelters. Unfortunately, events like that haven’t taken place for several months now. I hope things can get going there again soon too.

But now I wish you a lovely Friday, it’s just starting to snow here......
Best regards, Ines

Hello everyone,

I’ve decided to add a belt to the cardigan. That’ll work just fine as a closure. Here’s what it looks like. Now I just need to sew on the pockets. Then I’ll wrap it up nicely and put it in the gift cabinet.

Best wishes and have a wonderful day, Ina

Hey Anja, glad you’re here with us now.
Your cardigan looks great, and the new one is off to a good start.
Your needle organization is awesome. That’s definitely a good idea for some of us here. Mine always have to be within reach, which is why they’re hanging on my knitting cart.

OMG, Ines, your police officer is huge!! That must have taken a lot of work. And you did that all while renovating, too. Hats off to you!

Wow, Ina, your jacket is perfect now, and I could totally snag it from you. She must be a very dear friend to receive such a big gift. You sure finished knitting that jacket in a flash.

I’m moving a bit slower with my projects right now because decluttering is taking up quite a bit of my time. It’s eating up a few hours every day. I wouldn’t have believed it would take this long. But when I’m sorting things out—including old accounting records right now—I have to go through everything carefully again. In any case, it feels good and frees up space. I need to make that space before our new skylights are installed in April.

I’ve made quite a bit of progress on the cover now, after having to unravel a few rows yesterday. I lost a few stitches… oh well. I’ve noticed that the yarn isn’t great for double-faced knitting, but it definitely looks good.

Now I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Hello everyone,
quite a lot has happened here since my last post. Bird nests, new covers with a beautiful bird motif in Doubleface, a great police officer, the tissue box cover, and of course the super-beautiful raglan jacket.
I really like everything, but my favorite is the jacket.

I can finally show you something again. The baby blanket is finished. It was crocheted from a pattern from this site. However, I modified it a bit. Since I used different yarn, I first had to do some calculations so that it would turn out the right size. Otherwise, the blanket would have become huge.

Wow, a lot has happened here:

Sonja: The cover looks beautiful again.

Ines: The police officer is a real hit, and the tissue cover looks great.

Monika: Your nests look fantastic again—such a lovely idea.

Ina: The jacket is truly a work of art—very beautiful.

Marion, the blanket is so cute.

I’ve finished something again, too. A penguin bag—another wrapping for a child’s birthday present.

The photo didn’t turn out all that well.

You’ve all gotten so much done.

The blanket with the elephant turned out absolutely fantastic. C2C, if I’m not mistaken. A really great pattern, and the elephant looks great. How big did your blanket turn out to be? And how heavy is it? I always feel like C2C uses a lot of yarn, but the work also turns out nice and dense, which is good for a blanket.

Sandra, your gift bag is great. The birthday kid will definitely be thrilled with it. Kids always have so many things they want to bring along when they visit someone, and your penguin bag is sure to have plenty of room for them.
I always sew some of these, and later the kids can use them to store various toys.

Ina, your jacket is absolutely beautiful—both the yarn colors and the cut. I really like the wide band with the pearl stitch pattern.

I still have a few rounds left to knit on my second pair of baby pants; I’m already at the top of the waistband. They’re in apple green—it’s really fun to knit and gets me looking forward to spring (here’s a picture from the beginning; I haven’t taken any more photos yet)

Good morning,

Sandra, thanks for the compliment—I’m happy to return it. Your penguin pouch turned out great, too. It will make a lovely and practical gift, and the children are sure to like it very much.

Petra, thank you very much as well. You’re right—the blanket is crocheted in C2C. I did use quite a bit of yarn; it weighs exactly 617 g and ended up about 90 x 97 cm. It was my first project with a motif, so I’m really proud that it worked out.
Your baby pants are turning out very nicely, too; I’m excited to see the finished look. I really like the apple green—it looks so fresh.
I once knitted myself a top in that color, also with a lace pattern.

I hope you all have a lovely day; the sun is already shining here.

A cheerful hello to everyone, you’re making some lovely things!

Dear Marion, I really like your blanket with the cheerful elephant. Every child is sure to love it, absolutely enchanting. It’s great that you adjusted the dimensions—now it’s perfect. The motif is nicely centered and doesn’t look lost. And it’s quite large, too, so a lot of work went into it. The colors are also very pretty. You did a wonderful job!

Dear Sandra, the penguin bag is sure to be THE eye-catcher at the children’s birthday party. The gift inside will really become secondary. You must be crocheting quite a lot, because Anton seems to get invited often—word is getting around about your/his original gifts and gift wrappings. Everyone would love something like that!

Dear Petra, the apple-green baby pants are sure to turn out gorgeous. I really like that color, too. And the pattern already looks playful enough for delicate baby pants. I’m looking forward to seeing them.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Kind regards, Ina

Petra, the start of those baby pants looks very promising. I’m already looking forward to the pattern—I just received a birth announcement, and a pair of pants like that would make a great gift!

Sandra, you’re really spoiling Anton’s friends!

I can finally show you a color swatch of my case, too. However, the piece I photographed has been unraveled again because it was a bit too tight. Now I’ve switched needles, and it fits! That said, I’m still pretty much at the beginning.

Oh, there’s really a lot going on here again! You’ve made such beautiful things!

Marion, I love your baby blanket. That’s a very cute elephant. What kind of stitches did you use to crochet the blanket?

Sandra, the penguin bag is super cute. I bet Anton will be invited over more often if there’s such lovely gift wrapping.

Petra, I’m excited to see your baby pants. The piece you showed us here could also be a crown. It looks great, anyway.

Christina, I also love the colors you chose for the cover. It looks like you used pretty thin yarn, too, right?

I’ve finally gotten past the halfway point, even though I’ve had to rip it out a few times. The yarn from my stash isn’t ideal because the strands tend to catch on each other. The yarn isn’t quite as smooth and is rather unsuitable for DF. Still, I’m keeping at it. It’s already looking pretty good, though. Here are two photos—from both sides—of how it looks right now.

And the third nest is finished too:

Thank you, Ina and Monika, for your feedback.

Monika, in C2C you crochet double crochets; otherwise, you also make chain stitches and slip stitches.
Here at CP, there’s a free pattern on exactly how to do it.

Monika, just search for “C2C” and sort by “lowest price first.” You’re sure to find something there.

Hi everyone, I finished my pants this morning and would like to show them to you. I’m now adding a sweater in that same shade of pink. Let’s see how it turns out and if I can get it in the right size.

Thanks, Marion! I’ll keep that in mind for later. I’m working on other projects right now.

My cover is now finished too—except for the fasteners. I’m waiting for the fastener I ordered and trying to decide whether to attach it at the top or the bottom. I haven’t decided yet. This is what it looks like now. Once I remove the needles later, I’ll show you the other side as well.

I thought c2c stood for “corner-to-corner” and meant that something is crocheted from one corner to the other?

Great pants, Petra. The colors remind me of a vibrant tulip.

Monika, why are your needles so bent?

Monika , your case turned out beautifully again. You’ve really become a pro.

Petra , those baby pants look great. The bright pink sweater that goes with them looks really good, too. Are you using a lace pattern there as well?

Anja , that’s right—C2C is crocheted from corner to corner.

Petra, the pants turned out really pretty, and the pink goes great with them. I can’t wait to see the whole set.

Anja, I’m knitting with a CraSyTrio—that is, with 3 needles instead of a set of double-pointed needles. The needles look like that because they’re flexible. It works great!

Marion, your blanket is beautiful. Have you already moved on to your next project?

No, Monika. That’s a picture from the beginning of the elephant blanket.

I’m working on a small doily now, but not using that technique.

Wow, Petra really nailed it with the c2c. I would’ve thought it was crocheted from edge to edge.

Ah, that crazy trio… I just can’t get the hang of a set of double-pointed needles and prefer short circular needles.
That’s what I used to make this:

Anja, that little guy looks pretty funny.

Yes, the sweater is supposed to have the same pattern at the bottom. I’m not sure yet how it’ll continue at the top. I’ll take a look in my stitch pattern book later—maybe I’ll find something I like.

I often knit with just 3 double-pointed needles instead of 4. I didn’t even know that the needles from the Crazy Trio are flexible. Maybe I’ll find a video and take a look at it. Sounds interesting, or I’ll ask at the craft store—once it’s open again—how it works and how to knit with them.

Petra, I had to get the hang of the CraSyTrio at first, too. But I picked it up pretty quickly, and I love knitting with it. The set of double-pointed needles really isn’t my thing.

Anja, that little guy looks so funny sitting on your aloe plant. Did you just plop it right on top? You didn’t damage any of the plant’s stems, did you?

My phone case is almost finished too; I just need to knit the last few solid-color rounds at the top. Hopefully I’ll be able to take a picture of it tomorrow. Knitting this was so much fun that I’m now in the mood to make another phone case out of the leftover yarn—Sonja’s cat motif from the coaster would be perfect.
I really like the CraSyTrio, but the case’s 60 stitches were too many for one needle (I only have the short ones), so I switched to a set of double-pointed needles.

Petra, I also really like the green pants, and I think the pink goes great with them—it’s so fresh and summery.

Petra: The pattern and the green color are really pretty.

Monika: Your cover looks great again, too.

I’ve ended up with two more chickens.

Good morning.....

Well, a lot has happened here again, and I don’t even know where to start.

Marion, I really like your blanket. You did a really great job with the motif. I’m sure the baby will feel very comfortable on it, right?

Sandra, I can imagine that Anton will now want to go to every children’s birthday party, if only because of the pretty bags, haha. This one is beautiful again too.

Petra, I think the pants are very nice too, and the color with the top as well. They’ll definitely look great together and make you look forward to warmer temperatures. The patterned edge is something a bit different.

Christina, have you caught DB fever too? You all have such a knack for it. Sonja’s wonderful motifs really appeal to me, but since Impatience is practically my middle name, I just don’t dare try it. Just the thought of having to unravel it and then... with me it would end up in the corner as... I can’t do this... but who knows... For now I still want to work through my collected ideas, and then maybe I’ll give it a try.

Monika, you’re practically a pro now when it comes to DB, and I can only repeat what I already wrote to Christina: I’m always amazed at how easily it comes to you. And on top of that, there are those beautiful nests.

Anja, first of all, a warm welcome from me here in the group.
What is that cute little creature in the flower pot??? I also find double-pointed needles rather difficult. I do knit with them now and then, but I prefer short circular needles if possible. The Crazy Trio is supposed to be really good, though, and I’m thinking about adding it to my next order.

I, am still working on a floppy animal at the moment. I had it almost finished on Saturday, meaning the head and body, until my husband said, “I think that’s supposed to be a pug (head), and you’re making a long, skinny goose neck to go with it,” haha. So I unraveled the body again and crocheted a shorter neck. The arms are on now, and we’ll see what I manage to finish today. I’ll take a little picture soon. I hope I get around to continuing crocheting not only this evening; today my daughter’s little Yorkshire is due for a haircut, and she still doesn’t feel confident enough to do it herself, even though Asterix is so sweet and stays nice and still. Well, that way I get to enjoy having him around me again. Otherwise I only have my Malinois girl to spoil.
The next project is already on the horizon too. More on that later. I’m really looking forward to it, but I’d like to keep it a little secret for now.

Light snowfall is forecast here, grrr... even though the first forsythia buds are already showing, and I’ve also spotted two spring snowflakes.

Well, I wish you all a lovely start to the new week

Petra, there’s a video on YouTube where Sylvie introduces the Crazytrio. If I remember correctly, what bothered me was that one needle is shorter than the other. Is that right, Monika?

Monika of course the aloe is doing fine. It just looks a little crooked because I used leaves.

I’m really curious about Ines secret. Ooh, a dangly toy. I’ve had a floppy rabbit lying around here for 2 years now, still missing one arm and the ears. I just can’t seem to motivate myself to finish it. Something new and more exciting always comes up in between. :-)

Sandra, your chickens are a real hit. :)

Christina, I’m excited to see your case. I knitted it with yarn that has a 200 m yardage and 2.5 mm needles.

Ines, well, I’m curious about your secret. Not another big renovation, are you?
Asterix, what a cute name for a Yorkie. Do you cut his hair yourself?
As for patience, that’s at least my third middle name. But I was so drawn to the DF because I liked it so much that I stuck with it. Practice really does make perfect here.

Anja, with the CraSyTrio, all three needles are the same. I prefer the bamboo ones because they’re longer. They can take quite a lot, which really surprises me. Even the thin ones.
A quick question about the aloe: It’s about time we started using it. It’s practically exploding in the pot. Do you have any tips on that? How do you use it? I’m sure there are lots of ways.

After I completely unraveled a knitted felted basket today because it was much too big, I decided to design one myself. I’ll crochet the bottom and then probably knit upwards from there. I’ll post the free pattern and also upload it to the Päppler group.
Unraveling it was annoying, since I’d already knitted 200 g, but I just didn’t like it.

Monika I cut off a leaf when needed and place it cut-side down in an empty glass so the toxic part drains out. It’s a red sap; if it’s exposed to oxygen long enough, it turns black.
Then cut it open along the edge, lengthwise, and scrape out the gel with a spoon.
We use it for sunburn, pimples, cuts, and burn blisters. It works wonders for an itchy scalp and also makes your hair beautifully shiny.

That’s interesting, Anja. I didn’t know there was a toxic component to it.
We’ve already cut them open and added the contents to our smoothie.
Do you preserve the gel somehow, or do you use it on your scalp, for example, right after harvesting?
I definitely have to try that sometime.

Ines, I’ve been hooked on DF for a long time now: I knitted my first DF pot holders a few years ago, and last Christmas I made not only pot holders but also arm warmers using this technique (knitted in the round for the first time, which is much easier for me since I often didn’t like how the edge turned out). So it’s no wonder I’m completely blown away by Sonja’s patterns and would love to knit them all!
Someday I’ll try my hand at a doll’s hat.

Oh yes Christina, I think I’d already read about the arm warmers here, but somehow it slipped my mind. But yes, Sonja’s patterns are really lovely. Maybe if I ever have a grandchild to knit for, I’ll give it a try too.
Anja, that sounds really interesting about aloe. I always had problems with my scalp right after coloring my hair, and I’d try it for shiny hair too. I didn’t know about the toxic parts either. I mostly have the plant because I like how it looks. Well, I’ve learned something new again.

I forgot to mention that the aloe-oil mixture has to be stored in the fridge!!!!

So, when I started going through menopause, I had this itchiness on my scalp. I tried all kinds of shampoos, honey, oils, vinegar, quark, yogurt—even baking soda—but nothing helped. Until I tried the aloe mixture. But it’s even easier with a store-bought gel. If you want to know what it’s called, feel free to send me a private message. :-)

Good morning......

Monika,
you asked yesterday whether my secret was another renovation—no, haha, I’ve had enough of that for now, and apart from the dining room floor, everything is perfect. It’s black laminate, and you can see every little thing on it, so we’ll definitely replace it with a lighter vinyl floor. Unfortunately, I still haven’t decided which direction to go in yet, because really only black and white go with it, so I’m still looking :-)
No, the project is a knitting project—RVO—total new territory for me. I’ve never knitted anything like this before, and I’m curious myself to see whether I can pull it off.

But first I have to finish the pug—my daughter was already admiring it yesterday; it’s for her friend.
I managed little Asterix quite well yesterday with his new haircut. Carolin used to take him to the dog groomer, but that hasn’t been possible since April 2020 because of the lockdown, so out of necessity I started doing it myself. It requires a lot of patience and a steady hand.

Ines, you really are multi-talented: in addition to crafts and home renovations, now you’re even a dog groomer! I’d never dare try that—I’ve never even cut my kids’ or my husband’s hair… Actually, many, many years ago in South America, I wanted to take an adult education course in “Peluquería,” but it fell victim to the political turmoil. So all I have left are the earlier courses on pattern drafting and first aid (though what I learned there seems pretty outdated to me now!).
RVO seems to be contagious, too, and I only learned it here—but so far I’ve only applied it to doll sweaters. In any case, I wish you every success with it and can’t wait to see the result!

Christina, the first haircut was a disaster too, and I almost felt sorry for the little guy. Luckily, he wears a little coat during the cold season when he goes outside, so we could hide it. Now I’ve gotten an animal hair clipper, and it works really well—with a little patience (it takes us about 2 hours each time), it turns out just fine.
Your classes sound interesting, too. Everyone has their own thing, after all. Did you live there, or do you still live there? It’s still on my “places I’d like to visit” list. I hope those times will come around again someday and we can set our sights on destinations a little further afield.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the results from the RVO myself—I love learning new things.

Ines, you’re a true jack-of-all-trades! From crafts to needlework to grooming dogs :-) I hope Asterix was happy with his new spring hairstyle. That’s a really cool name for a Yorkie :-)

Christina, you’ve obviously made good use of your time abroad! As for first aid, I agree with you—the guidelines are always changing, and it’s worth refreshing your knowledge regularly. Oh yeah, I really should do that again too...

Petra, what a great combination of fresh colors—that rich green and pink! How far along are you with the sweater? The set is sure to look enchanting.

Sandra, two more chickens that look absolutely fantastic. And I just admired the penguin bag, too! I can only agree—Anton is sure to be a very sought-after guest if he brings the gift wrapped so beautifully.

Marion, what a cute blanket you’ve crocheted! I haven’t tried the C2C technique yet, but it’s clear you can create really great designs with it.

Monika, I think it’s so commendable that you’re continuing to work hard for the Päppler and even want to design your own nest. That’s the perfect way to use up leftover yarn. And your cover is really beautiful—I’m already curious to see how you’ll close it.

Anja, it’s great that you’re joining in here too! Thanks for the info on aloe—I didn’t know it contained a toxic sap either. If I ever need some, I think I’d probably message you for the tip about the ready-made gel ;-)

I’ve been working on a cuddle cloth over the last few days.

Of course, you could also make pot holders out of it. The bear and his mom were originally designed for a loop scarf. But now he wants to keep exploring the world... :-)

Hello and good morning,

Sonja, your snuggle blanket is really sweet again. You can easily imagine Mama Bear explaining to the little bear everything that awaits him in the big wide world—such a sweet motif, I’m really thrilled by it.

Yes, Asterix, haha, the name fits. Our Yorkie is also such a whirlwind; he likes to annoy big dogs, so I always have to be very careful and keep my female dog away. She won’t put up with it and also doesn’t get along well with other dogs,

Yesterday my yarn arrived for my new project, and now I’m excited—my fingers are itching to get started.

Sonja, that’s exactly how I pictured it: “repurposing” the cute motifs from the loops. I’m blown away again! How many stitches does the shawl have? As you’ve surely noticed, I’m a huge bear fan—as befits someone from Bern! I’ve also passed this passion on to our son. As a little boy, he used to stage soccer games, coffee parties, and carnival parades with his teddy bears, and today the bears are the main attraction for our grandsons whenever they come to visit.

Sandra, it must be quite a clucking affair over at your place with so many proud hens. Is there actually a rooster in the mix, too?

Ines, you’re really keeping us in suspense…

Yeah, Ines, I have to say, you’re a true jack-of-all-trades. Oh my, I don’t imagine replacing the floor is exactly a walk in the park either. It’s almost like moving. You have to clear everything out.
And now you’re a dog groomer, too. I can’t imagine that’s easy with such a small, delicate Yorkie. But I’m sure it’s fun. I used to cut my son’s hair, too, and I still do it for my husband—another one of my “learning by doing” projects.
I’m also excited to see your new project.

Sonja, you’re so quick! That cuddle blanket looks super cute—especially since I love little bears so much—just like Christina. It’s a great idea to use it as a pot holder. Did you knit it with cotton?

I’ve now finished the cover for my friend. One side is closed, and I left the bottom open. That’s where the clasp will go as soon as I have it.

Personally, I don’t think the yellow side is very pretty. The yarn wasn’t really suitable for double-face knitting because it isn’t very smooth. The strands often catch on each other, and that’s more noticeable on the yellow side than on the green one.

It’s amazing what you’re creating with DF! I think it’s really great, but it looks like it would involve a lot of reading the pattern and counting rows. So it’s not for me. ;-)

I promised a coworker that I’d crochet his future daughter’s name for him, and now, of all things, it has to be an 8-letter name. Since it’s double-sided, that means 16 pieces! Waaaah! I can’t offer to do that anymore—they’re having kids left and right, and I’m in a bit of a slump when it comes to crafting anyway.

Well, your covers all look lovely.
Monika, I actually think the one with the green gradient yarn is really beautiful.
You’re definitely making the comfort blanket too, right? You do love bears :-)

Hmm, laying the flooring will take two days, but that’s not on the agenda right now—at least not now that we’re heading outdoors. I think that won’t be an issue until November. Work in the garden will start soon, and then the pool needs to be made ready, so there’s always something to do.

That’s all I’ll reveal about my new craft project for now: it’s going to be a cardigan.

Anja, Crocheting letters on that scale wouldn’t be my thing either. Have fun with it.

Well then, I wish you all a lovely evening

Anja, you can’t get around counting stitches at DF ;-) But you’ll be busy with the crochet letters for a while anyway. Although you can count yourself lucky with that 8-letter name. A coworker’s daughter is named Geneviève Adelaide...

Christina, you really are a teddy bear family! I can just picture the stories of how your son used to play with the teddy bears. It’s great that your grandchildren are enjoying them now, too.

Monika, you can’t tell from the pictures that the yellow yarn is so uneven. But I think the “yellow bird” or “yellow flower” version on a green background is so great that the cover doesn’t necessarily need to be turned inside out.

Ines, I’m already excited to see your yarn and the cardigan!

Anja, those are things I don’t really feel like doing either. Tiny fiddly crochet pieces aren’t necessarily my thing.

Ines, I’ll definitely knit that little bear pattern someday. But right now there are lots of other things first that take priority. I’m also excited to see your cardigan. That’s on my list for late summer too. But before that I’ll have to go yarn shopping... yay. :)

Yes, Sonja, I also think the version with the green background is nicer, and my friend surely will too. She really likes green. The closure will be sewn on tomorrow, and then the cover will be on its way.

I have a question for all the felting pros here:

Is there a difference between crocheted or knitted felted items when felting? And if so, what is it? ص

I’m asking because my drey is partly crocheted and partly knitted, and I’d like to know how it behaves when felted.

Oh Sonja, that girl is really burdened with that name. Of course everyone can and should go by their own taste, but sometimes it really does give you a headache.......

Monika, luckily all the shops will be allowed to open again soon, so at least you can feel the yarn when you buy it.
Today I’ll show you the yarn I bought, and then you’ll have an idea which cardigan I’m knitting. Oh, I’m so excited that I also get to venture into new territory with top-down raglan (RVO).

It’s pretty stormy here, so once my work is done I can devote myself to crafting.

Oh, Ines… *sigh*. The yarn looks amazing, and I can imagine you’re really looking forward to knitting with it. I order my yarn from Finkhof and have already looked at which one I want to use.

Now it’s time for dreys and nests, because the season for the hand-rearers is about to start. I want to be able to help right away. And on the side, I’ll keep working on my new designs, :)

My question about the felting yarn still stands (see my last post).<\/strong>

Ines, your yarn is so lovely. It’s the same one Ina used. What weight are you knitting it in, and how much yarn did you buy? In my stash I found a similar one too. I think it’s 700 g.

I like the jacket so much. I started one myself once, in thinner yarn.

Have a lovely afternoon, everyone.....

Sandra, your little chickens are wonderful—now in their sporty outfits. As soccer fans (that is, my husband and I), we don’t have a figure like that yet, but you’ve just given me an idea. And even if the figure only fits in my husband’s hobby room—because it definitely won’t fit in the car; they’d smash our window......

Monika, I took a quick look at Finkhof online. Since we’re planning another trip to Lake Constance for a late-summer vacation, we’ll definitely be heading to Ravensburg too—I just love those markets, and who knows, maybe I’ll find something there as well—a yarn diet… what’s that? It’s enough if I go on one myself :-)

Marion, you’re absolutely right, of course—I get to knit Ina’s jacket. I feel a little honored by that; I’ve never knitted RVO before, so this is my first time trying it. I could run around in circles like a rooster around his hens, but now to your question.... The yarn is Fano by Online; it has a length of 240 m per 150 g, and I’m knitting with size 5 needles. I bought 900 g, but Ina says I’ll need about 700 g.... But that’s okay—I already have someone who’ll take the rest, haha

Actually, I was supposed to be designing the curtain now, but that’ll probably be a project I tackle in the summer. I won’t be writing a pattern for it, since I want to use your pattern.

My dangling toy is also finished by now

My daughter has already picked it up, and it will be given as a gift soon.

Have a lovely evening, LG

Ines, your Schlenkertier turned out really pretty. I’m already excited to see your curtain. You said you’re using a different color. It’s sure to look great.
Thanks for the info about the yarn. I read that it’s knitted with size 7–8 needles. That’s why I asked. So you’re using thinner needles.  I can totally imagine you walking in circles. I would have loved to test-knit that jacket too. It’s just beautiful. I do have some thick yarn like that in my stash, but I don’t know if it would be enough.
The yarn I’m using for the jacket now is knitted with size 3.5 to 4 needles. It probably won’t quite be enough. I’ll have to work in some matching colored stripes. Let’s see how it turns out.

Have fun knitting.

Ines, you’ve been busy again. Your Schlenkertier looks great! So laid-back...
I like to order yarn from Finkhof. They also have a booth at the markets around Ravensburg. You can have the yarn shipped there, which saves on shipping costs. Since I know the wool well and it’s very durable—especially for kids’ clothes—I order exactly what I need. It comes from local organic sheep, which is important to me. Plus, it’s naturally dyed in beautiful colors. Oh, I’m really getting carried away, and I’m already so excited for a huge package from them.

I’m trying something new with my squirrel nest. On the one hand, with the design, and on the other, with the construction. Now I just have to figure out if it’s even possible to felt a piece that’s crocheted at the bottom and knitted at the top. Because if that doesn’t work, it’ll mean… unraveling it—for the second time.
This is what the nest looks like right now:

Oh dear, Sandra, we’re fans of RB Leipzig—that’s enough to give a lot of people hives—but the fact is that the club has really spurred a lot of growth here in our region. We don’t like everything about it either, and many people don’t know how the whole story began; we’ve been following them since the regional league. Not that I want to—or have to—justify being a fan....It’s just the way it is—even though we watch soccer in general, we sometimes prefer the smaller leagues to the flashy league :-)

Monika , the drey turned out great, but as far as felting goes, I’m afraid I can’t help—I’ve never felted anything—but you’re really hard at work, as the number of pieces shows....I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that both techniques will work together and you won’t have to unravel it.

@Monika
I can’t imagine that it makes a difference whether it’s crocheted or knitted when felting—not even when combined.
Just give it a try.
If it goes really wrong, stuff a plant inside and use it as a hanging basket.

Thank you, Ines and Anja, for your replies.
For now, I’ll keep asking around about the felting. I’d hate to have worked up the wool for nothing. As an experiment, it feels too uncertain to me at this size.

In any case, I still have felting wool for 3 dreys, and they’ll all be made using the new model, provided it works. You’ll hear about it here.

A large nest will be finished today; I crocheted it over the last two days. It’s more than 20 cm in diameter. With another nest, I then crocheted up a lot of leftover yarn and have already built up some stock for the start of the hand-rearing season.

My friend’s birthday is at the end of April, and I’m going to do a little research into what might make her happy. As you can see, my needles don’t have a chance to stand still.

I wish you all a lovely weekend with plenty of time for what you love.

Monika, I don’t have any experience with felting, but I found some information about it online (Ribbelmonster).

I also crocheted a small blanket. It fits nicely in the nook/corner. You don’t need a pattern for this.

Thanks, Marion. From what I found there, it would mean I’d have to make two swatches and then test-felt them. It’s an idea… but I’ve almost used up all this yarn. And I can’t spare any of the rest. I’ll just have to give it a try now and maybe tweak it as I go. I think I’ll take that risk.
Your doily looks great—a wonderful idea for using up scraps.

Good evening, everyone!
Unfortunately, I don’t have much time right now to give all these beautiful creations the detailed praise they deserve. But as I was scrolling through, I saw lots of lovely things that I’ll take a closer look at soon :-).

I actually just wanted to quickly reply to Monika about her felting question: On your Kobel, the bottom is crocheted and the top is knitted. Generally speaking, crochet stitches felt less well and less firmly than knitted ones. That means the bottom part will probably felt a little less than the top—but that would actually work out fine.

However, you can pull the piece into shape firmly after felting. Your husband’s got some muscle :-) And the little critters won’t care anyway—as long as it’s warm and windproof.

My only question is about the size. If a felted piece shrinks by at least 30 to 40%, your new animal houses will end up quite small. But there are plenty of little critters out there looking for a cozy home like that. So good luck!
Best regards, Ina

Argh, I tried on the RVO jacket today—the one I recalculated with Ruth’s help—and found a mistake. I could probably fudge it, but the jacket is also very close-fitting, and I don’t like that. I’m thinking about starting over from scratch. I used a chart to adjust the stitch count so it would be wider. I really don’t like unraveling and starting all over again... I’m only just past the shoulders on the back, but ugh... :-(
I just don’t have the patience for that kind of thing.

Oh, thank you, Ina, for taking the time! Your professional advice means a lot to me. I’ve finished it now, and it’s going in the washing machine the day after tomorrow. It just looks so small. It’s now just under 30 cm tall and the same width. That should be just right for the little squirrel babies. They’re so tiny, after all. I’m really curious to see how it turns out. And I’ll be sure to let you know, of course.

I wish you all a cozy weekend with warm wool, clacking needles, and whatever else you enjoy. And to you, Anja, I’d also like to wish you lots of patience.

On a whim, I slipped in a little Easter decoration. I liked the pattern right away. I’ll definitely be crocheting a few more.

Your chickens turned out cute, Marion. (I made a very similar pattern last year.)

I’ve also been working on a little Easter decoration. The appliqués are very versatile. I’ll probably glue or sew them onto the Easter baskets.

Ines: So today wasn’t exactly a successful soccer day for you guys. I actually think it’s pretty great that you’re around. It makes the Bundesliga a little more exciting.

Marion: The chickens turned out really nice; I can see why there are more on the way.
Your blanket turned out really nice, too.

Ruth: Those little appliqués are so cute.

I finished an orchid today... it’ll be a little thank-you gift for Anton’s speech therapist.

Good morning....

Oh dear, it’s already mid-March—time really flies.....

Monika, have you felted anything yet, and did everything turn out well? I had to think of you over the weekend—my mom was sorting through her yarn. She inherited it from her sister and got garbage bags full of yarn; it had been sitting in the storage room for quite a while. Now everything is neatly sorted, and there was some felting wool among it too, which is why I thought of you, since I immediately claimed that yarn for myself to make some new guest slippers sometime—who knows when, haha......

Marion, I really like your little chickens too. I love it when a few splashes of color are hopping around among the plants or on the windowsill.

Ruth, the appliqués are perfect again for using up small bits of leftover yarn, and they’re sure to find a place on one Easter basket or another.

Sandra, oh, that orchid is sure to go down well—it turned out beautifully.
Yes, soccer was a bit disappointing for us this weekend, but the opponent is no pushover either, and anyone competing at the top should be able to manage it. Well, the team at the top of the standings will surely do it again; there are still a few games left.

I kept my needles clicking away all weekend, and I’ll show you how far I’ve gotten with the cardigan
All my other craft projects are on hold for now, but that’s okay—I’m so happy with the result so far, especially because this is my first time knitting RVO.

Anyway, have a great start to the new week! Best regards

Well, honestly, Ines how fast are you? *amazed*

Marion I had already written something about your chickens, but apparently I didn’t send it. I noticed that they have a heart in the body, and I think it would look quite pretty as decoration with just little hearts, too.

Ruth I’ve also googled the Easter bunny, the butterfly, and the egg before. For the butterflies, I had specifically written down in my notebook how to make one. And I noted it down so badly myself that now I no longer know how it’s done; I can’t understand my own pattern. :(

Sandra the orchid is amazing! ♡

Ruth, your Easter appliqués look lovely—they can be used for so many things.

Sandra, your orchid looks amazing. You’re getting better and better. You really have to look closely—it could easily be real.

Ines, you’re super fast again. Your cardigan looks great, too—no wonder, with that beautiful yarn.

Anja, yes, the chickens are just “adorable.” They’re quick to make; I’m making a whole flock of them.
How’s your RVO cardigan coming along?
Mine’s only growing slowly, too; I’m almost at the end of the raglan section now.

With this lousy weather today, I’ll probably make a bit more progress.

What kind of words did my text autocomplete throw in there again? I didn’t Google those things, I crocheted them.
And no hearts are being rented out either, I meant to write “middle.” :)

My RVOs are on hold. The one with the thicker yarn, I didn’t feel like working on it, and with the one with the thinner yarn, I still don’t know whether I’ll start over from scratch.

In the meantime, I made a few letters for the baby-name garland.

Didn’t do anything yesterday. Yesterday was a take-it-easy-on-my-neck day.
