I have something very special to show you.
Why not knit your name as a barcode!
This is
not a normal pattern, but a pattern that shows how to design interesting stripes into an object.
These stripes are not just any stripes, but stripes with meaning and flair. The meaning and flair is the barcode. When we define our sequence of rounds or rows this way, we have immortalized our
individual name. It’s not a problem if no one can read it, but we ourselves know the meaning, and that alone counts :-)
We generate the rows ourselves using Barcode 128, which includes and can display not only numbers but also lowercase and uppercase letters.
Attention, a pattern for a loop scarf and a shawl is included in this pattern.
But stripes for your other projects can also be calculated with this pattern.
If you’d like to know more about Barcode 128, here is a bit of theory:
Codeword is the term for a character.
A codeword in Code 128 always includes 3 bars and 3 spaces and always consists of 11 modules. For us, this means that a letter or a number always consists of 11 rows. The individual bars and spaces can be 1–4 rows wide.
A character begins with a bar and ends with a space. The following character begins again with a bar.
Since with our barcode we do not have to worry about readability by a scanner, and therefore the greatest possible contrast, we can use our favorite colors.
Basically, any yarn and needle size can be used for the stripe pattern. How to adapt the size to the yarn and text is described in detail.
