Dear community,
Which sewing machine can you use to sew sleeping bags or sew anything with several thick layers of fabric? Are there any tips and tricks for that?
Yes, there are machines that can handle thick layers without breaking a sweat. Both of my Pfaff machines handle this with ease, though I’ve only set up my little Pfaff 1467 for thick layers—because you should also use a slightly stronger thread so the whole project doesn’t come apart due to a thread that’s too weak. I’ve set up an extra bobbin case for this so I don’t always have to fiddle with the bobbin thread tension; I just place the thick fabric under the machine and can get started right away. What you mustn’t do with thick layers is go full throttle with the foot pedal—no machine likes that. Always sew gently and with a light touch.
Best regards, Inge
