Grab a stopwatch or a watch where you can easily read off a minute.
Grab your current craft project—one where you can easily count how much you’ve done—and get started. Stop the timer as soon as the minute is up and count your stitches.
Write down the number of stitches here, and please don’t forget to mention whether you were crocheting, knitting, or knitting with a hook, and whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or expert.
Have fun :)
I think it always depends on the yarn, too. Lana Grossa and Schachenmayr are great to crochet with. I’ve also tried Drops Paris now. My hook keeps catching on it so often. If I ever manage it, I’ll join in too... then, of course, with the better one :))
Hmm… are you a beginner if you crochet or knit slowly, and a pro if you do needlework quickly?
I place a huge emphasis on having absolutely perfect stitch definition, so I prefer to crochet slowly and carefully.
So the comparison is like saying: “I can drive a car super fast, so I drive like a pro”? ;-)
So if you crochet or knit “too” slowly—or whatever—just don’t let it drive you crazy ♥
For me, it depends on which hook and yarn I’m using—there are some combinations where I crochet quickly, but with other combinations it takes me forever because the yarn just doesn’t glide as well.
But I’ll make a note of which hook and yarn I use for my next crochet projects and let you know.
Does a comparison like this really make sense?
There are just way too many factors involved.
What are you crocheting—and how much concentration does that require?
What kind of yarn are you using, and what weight is it? Is it a smooth yarn that glides easily, or one that can almost drive you to despair?
With thick yarn, you need more strength, and the hook has to make longer movements... and so on...
What do you really want to be able to compare???? Hmm...
And let’s not forget how strong your hand—or hands—are... it’s not just a matter of practice and technique, but also what a hand is capable of in terms of strength...
44 per minute for amigurumi—since you have to crochet multiple rows, I add them up and crochet the stitches all at once :)
