Question about a crochet pattern (decreasing stitches)

Hello everyone,
I have a question about a crochet pattern. It’s for a triangular shawl that’s crocheted in a basic double crochet pattern. At the beginning and end of the second row, two stitches are decreased, and in the third row, three stitches are decreased. Then you repeat the second and third rows until you’re finished. So far, I understand the pattern.

Regarding the decreases for the slant, the instructions say the following:
At the beginning of row 2 (3), decrease 2 (3) sts: 2 turning chains, work 1 unfinished double crochet into each of the next 2 (3) double crochets, then yarn over and draw through all loops on the hook. At the end of the row, decrease 2 (3) sts: Work 1 unfinished double crochet into each of the last 3 (4) double crochets, then yarn over and draw through all 3 (4) loops on the hook.

I tried this out and, in principle, I understand how the decrease works. The only part I’m stuck on now is the instruction that says when you work an unfinished double crochet into each of the last 3 double crochets (or 4 double crochets in the 3rd row) at the end of the row, you’ll have 3 (or 4) loops on the hook, which you then draw through together with a yarn over. When I tried this, after working 3 unfinished double crochets, I had 4 loops (not 3) on the hook (and 5 loops after 4 unfinished double crochets), since a loop is added with each unfinished double crochet. Where am I going wrong here? Maybe someone can help me?

Thank you very much and best regards

I end up with the same number of loops as you. I suspect the author made a mistake there and that you need to pull the yarn over through 4 (5) loops.
Is the pattern from here? Then why not ask the author directly!

I see it exactly the same way as ruthk, one partially completed double crochet has 2 loops
and each additional one adds one more loop....

Thanks for your answers. I’ll just give it a try that way and see how it turns out.
