Yes, but not a first-grader anymore. Neither in primary school nor in high school.
My kids are old hands at school and everything’s going smoothly.
We’re enjoying the summer break. My son is working his summer job this week and next, my little one is home with Dad this week and will be in holiday care starting next week.
And starting in August, we’ll be on vacation again—and spending time at Grandma’s too.
What I love about school is that the kids are well taken care of, and I don’t have to worry about who can watch them and when while I’m at work. Of course, my two see it completely differently!
But they love going to school, and every day is an adventure there. Sometimes more for the teachers than for the kids.....
I’m curious to see what system this school offers — unfortunately, the school system has become more and more bizarre from child to child over the years.
And I know what I’m talking about: there are now 26 years and 3 different systems between my first child and my youngest.
In any case, Jonathan can hardly wait. It’s sure to be lovely — first, we’re having visitors from Germany — Birgit probably has the hiccups right now — and on the Sunday before school starts, it’s his birthday, and then on Monday it all begins — pure excitement.
My oldest grandchild turns nine two days before school starts and is joining a newly formed third-grade class with a teacher. I’m really curious to see how it goes!
I always enjoy seeing how children learn these days—though sometimes I’m a bit surprised by all the new things that keep getting invented and then quickly disappear again (e.g., set theory, which was all the rage back when my kids were in school). By the way, every child learned to read using a different method—sometimes with individual letters, sometimes with syllables…
My oldest grandson is starting school this year. At first, he was very skeptical. But recently there was an open house at the school, and he was really excited. Hopefully it stays that way!
Luckily, my son is already done with school. He’s starting university in October—he’s chosen to study law, of all things! So he’s a “first-grader” at university, so to speak.
