Wool as a filling material?

A friend asked me if I could use raw Heidschnucken wool. I don’t know how to spin, and the wool feels pretty coarse. Can it be used as stuffing?
Does anyone have experience using wool as stuffing?
I imagine washing it wouldn’t be an option, since it would probably turn into a big clump, right?

Mel, I’ve thought about that before, too…
But I decided against it because, for one thing, it’s hard to wash, and for another, it takes forever to dry.

Of course, everyone can decide for themselves…

Well, for me, amigurumis are often more like decorative items and are hardly ever washed at all (I just dust them off every now and then) ;-)

And as it happens, my sister has two sheep in her big garden—one white and one black!
There are always small bits of wool left over that are hard to comb and spin, but they’re perfect for stuffing—especially if you prefer to use natural materials.

But I agree with you—for figures that need to be washed more often—like stuffed animals for kids, for example—I’d also go with the durable, hard-wearing polyacrylic stuffing. :-)

I wasn’t just thinking about amigurumi, but also things like pillows… but I think I’d better leave it—otherwise it’ll just end up lying around or as fertilizer in the flower bed.

I’m already familiar with wool as a stuffing material, but mainly for things intended as decorations. Some people also use small scraps that they wouldn’t otherwise know what to do with, or the ends left over from weaving in yarn ends.

I use raw wool like that as stuffing for Waldorf dolls. You can definitely wash it by hand.

Nina, how long does it take to dry? Doesn’t the filling clump up then?
