Hello, everyone on the Crazypatterns forum!
I haven’t been online in a while, but I get the impression that the owl trend is slowly coming to an end.
Would you agree?
Hi... I couldn't say. There are still plenty of owl fans out there. But there are already so many owl patterns out there. That makes it hard to come up with something new.
I still see owls quite often too. I’ve also noticed them frequently in stores lately, as printed motifs or embroidered on pillows.
And I have a friend who’s simply addicted to owls :D She’s even imposed an “owl-buying ban” on herself so her apartment doesn’t, and I quote, “become too owl-ish.” People even talk about “owl euphoria” or “owling,” as you can read here:

There are so many owl patterns, not just here on Crazypatterns but all over the internet, and lots of people really like owls.
If it really were the case that no new owl patterns were being created anymore, which probably won’t happen anytime soon since people still enjoy crocheting and knitting owls and therefore buy owl patterns,
then, when patterns on certain themes are selling well, more of them will keep being produced — supply and demand and all that. It also makes sense to offer what people currently really love and absolutely want to have. And if, with a theme like owls for example, they keep wanting more and more new owls again and again, then that’s good for creativity, and when creativity is thriving, there will be lots of lovely new patterns with even more cute owls.
So even if there really seriously were no new owl patterns anymore, it still wouldn’t be over by a long shot.
But even then, all the people who still have a stack of owl patterns they haven’t made yet would still have to work their way through that stack of owl patterns.
So if, theoretically, no new owl patterns were ever added to the shop again,
people would still keep crocheting and knitting plenty of owls.
That was a lot of words, but summed up briefly, you could perhaps put it like this: you can never have enough owls. ; )
Butterflies would really be a nice change of pace—they have wings, too :D
I always thought owls were really pretty, until this huge hype started—now I’m downright sick of them because they’re practically on everything.
I recently read a report about an interior design/home decor trade show (I don’t have the source handy right now): apparently, the owl trend was sparked by the home decor industry and, shortly thereafter, spilled over into clothing, accessories, and so on.
The trade show director said that squirrels are now set to become the new owls, since these cute little creatures are really on the rise right now.
I still think owls are cute, even though I still haven’t had a chance to make any—I’m a single parent with three grown sons who aren’t exactly fans of the trend :-)
I first came across them when owl-embroidered wrist warmers were on the cover of Molly Makes—I made a pair for myself, too :-)
We moved two weeks ago, and there are owls in the little woods in front of our house. Let me tell you, once they get going, sleeping with the window open is out of the question :-)
But they’re still cute little creatures
@maksdesign: Well, you’ll have to explain that to me in more detail! :) (If you feel like it)
Do owls make a lot of noise at night? Do they screech a lot, or do you mostly hear their flapping? And do they come into the apartment if you leave the window open?
Do you see any other animals outside your door? :)
I’d love to live near a little grove or forest someday! As my name suggests, I’m totally crazy about foxes. But I love other forest animals, too. I wouldn’t mind squirrels either :3
