Oh, the weekend is just around the corner. It won’t be long now before I can go home.

Tomorrow we’re taking our little guy to the Wiener Stadthalle to see “Masters of Dirt.” He got tickets for his birthday and thinks it’s totally cool.
Unfortunately, that means I won’t get to see my daughter’s performance at the Spring Festival. It’s all happening at once again, unfortunately. But my mom is stepping in to pick up my little one from home, cheer her on during the performance, and then bring her back home.
A big shout-out to all the grandmas and grandpas (my dad is coming along, too) at this point. Because without them, a lot of this just wouldn’t be possible!

Sunday is a day for lounging around! I want to start working on a few birthday gifts and finish one of them.

Oh, how nice—the weekend is almost here. Yeah, I’m heading home soon, too. I’m actually supposed to be studying for my continuing education course, but honestly… I started my Tunisian crochet sweater yesterday, and somehow I just can’t put it down… I think I’ll make a lot of progress on it this weekend. Of course, the laundry is waiting for me, too, and I need to do a little cleaning around the apartment. But since the forecast calls for bad (and cold) weather, I’m going to curl up in front of the TV with my Latin book and plenty of yarn. And with this cold weather, my old dog doesn’t really want to go outside anymore, so I’ll turn up the heat and get crocheting!!!

What kind of further training do you need Latin for?
I have the “Großes Latinum” myself and am just asking out of curiosity.

I’m completing my Matura (the German equivalent is the Abitur), and I had the choice between Latin and French as a second language. Since I’ve always wanted to learn Latin and I’m more likely to need it for my job (I work at a law firm) than French, I decided on Latin. But it’s pretty hard.

Yes, it is, but if you stick with it, you’ll get a lot out of it, because it gives you an edge with foreign words—and sometimes even with technical jargon (like law, in your case)—as well as when learning Romance languages (Spanish, French, etc.).
Keep at it. You can do it.

Tomorrow we're going shopping; it's IKEA's turn again. We actually wanted to fire up the barbecue for the first time this year, but with this weather we'll postpone it after all.
On Sunday, as always, we're having a family meal with the in-laws, and we'll spend the rest of the day relaxing.

Now I wish everyone a lovely, relaxing weekend
Best regards, Petra

Hi, Josefa. Yes, that’s actually why I mainly took Latin—because it’s the foundation of Romance languages, and it makes it easier for me to learn other languages.
Luckily, I’m already home relaxing now. Today’s rain has stopped, so I’m treating myself to a bit of crochet, and then it’s off to do some housework before I head to my evening class—physics is on the schedule today. Greetings to everyone!

On Saturday, I get to see “Die wilden Hühner” at the theater, with children as the actors. Then I need to finish the baby blanket.
On Sunday morning, I’m helping out at the church coffee hour, and afterward it’s back to crocheting: I want to crochet little bunnies for my fellow board members. Later, I want to start working on the gnome for the baby.
To Sofi: Good luck and keep at it with the Latin vocabulary! I taught that ancient language for several years with great joy (though I have to say, the joy was probably more on my end than the students’—even though they chose the subject voluntarily!)

I just dropped Anton off at my husband’s work and am now heading to a members’ meeting for a nonprofit organization where I’m the vice chair. The organization is still very small, so it’s really just a get-together with friends at a restaurant—and it’s nice to go without a child for a change.

Tomorrow evening we’re invited to a friend’s birthday party, and he’s hosting a Syrian cooking class at his place… I’m curious to see what it’s like.

And on Sunday, we’re invited over to my mother-in-law’s for dinner. So our weekend is kind of all about eating

Everything you’re planning sounds really interesting. :-)
I’m going to do some cleaning this weekend—it’s desperately needed. Especially since I have guests coming over on Monday and there’s yarn lying around everywhere.

The rest of the time, I’ll finish knitting my UFO—the sweater for Baby Bear. And then I’ll knit one more sweater for another little bear. You see, I’ve loved teddy bears ever since I was very little. And that’s why, besides lots of yarn, I also have… lots of teddy bears.

Hi mowi, are you knitting sweaters for all the bears? I’ve also dressed some of my (now-adult) son’s bears, but not my own. There are 16 teddy bears sitting and standing in my home office, and there are a few more in the bedroom, but I still can’t compete with my son...

Hi Christina,

I can’t find your post in the thread—only here on its own. And I hope you get this reply now, too.

Wow, that’s so cool that you and your son are bear fans, too! We have bears scattered all over the place. I’ve decided that they’re all going to get knitted outfits now. That way, I can try out a few new patterns and ideas on little mini sweaters. I’ve already picked out a few colors from my yarn stash that I want to combine.

It’ll probably be not just sweaters, but some trousers too. I’m having a blast with this right now. :-)

mowi, do you knit sweaters for all your bears? I’ve also dressed up a few of my (now-grown) son’s teddy bears, but I’ve never knitted any for my own bears. I actually own a few myself—there are 16 bears standing or sitting in my study alone—but of course, I can’t compete with my son’s collection...

I already replied… but once again, my reply isn’t showing up here.

Christina, I took a look at my bears… wow, there sure are a lot of them. The smaller ones are scattered all over the place. I have two in the bedroom, and in the living room are my four Steiff bears and a few others. Here’s a photo of the Steiff teddy bears. Some of them are wearing sweaters that I knitted or crocheted for my son’s bears 40 years ago. Now it’s time for something new.

First up is the youngest one—Fynn, the one in the overalls. He’s getting a new sweater, which I’ve already started. Size-wise, it should also fit Knopf (the one with the yellow sweater and red pants). The four of them are all about the same size.

I’ve already picked out a few colors from my stash of yarn, and I’m going to experiment a bit with patterns. Fynn’s sweater is looking really cute so far—take a look:

Once the sweaters are finished, I’ll knit some pants to go with them, too. Knitting little things like this is just so much fun.

Yeah, it’s not just my bears who are getting jealous! The baby dolls would love to have something new again, too! (I’ve got more than enough yarn, after all!!!)

Christina, how big are your dolls? I’m actually looking for different sizes for my designs right now.

They’re about 42, 45, and 52 cm tall—Reborn-style babies, which means they’re chubbier than regular dolls.

Ah, thanks for the measurements, Christina! I’ll keep that in mind. It’s quite possible that Linja’s dolls are similar sizes.

I have a bear that’s about 40 cm tall, who’s also a bit “chubby.” At least his sweaters fit dolls of that size, too.

Your dolls are probably totally cute. If only I had more space.... sigh...
Then that could be another hobby.

I wish everyone here a wonderful weekend with plenty of time for crafting!

Warm regards
Monika
