Infinity Scarves for Summer

Hi everyone,
I have a question. So, winter isn’t quite over yet,
but soon, soon it’ll be over and then it’ll get warmer.
I’ve seen several patterns here in the shop on Crazypatterns that can be used to make infinity scarves for summer. Of course, I assume you can also make scarves for summer with them. ;)
My question is this: if you want to crochet, knit, knook, or even use Tunisian crochet to make an infinity scarf for summer, since the method isn’t really the main point, I think, is it enough to simply use a loose, airy yarn? I think lace yarn would be perfect for that, right?
But I mean, can you basically use the same technique as for a winter infinity scarf?
After all, in summer you don’t necessarily want as much warmth around your neck as in winter, unless you maybe have a sore throat or something like that.
I just think it makes a big difference whether you use thick wool or a very light yarn.
But now I’m really wondering whether the technique makes a difference too. What would be the airiest option? Would you rather knit or crochet when it comes to a summer infinity scarf?
Are there special techniques that make the respective handmade piece a little airier?
For example, I think double crochet or cluster stitches definitely leave “air holes,” so it doesn’t get as warm underneath.
Or do you simply knit/crochet a bit less tightly than usual and approach the whole thing a bit more loosely? With lightweight yarn, of course, because I don’t think thick yarn will ever become suitable for summer, even if you crochet or knit loosely.
How do you do it?
Are there techniques where lightweight yarn doesn’t help, or does it actually work with all of them?
It would be lovely if the pros and experienced crafters could tell me a bit about this.
Thanks

It just occurred to me that an infinity scarf or scarf made with lightweight yarn must be great for summer evenings, right? If it gets chilly in the evening while grilling, you’re happy to have something warm.
But maybe that’s more in the direction of a triangular shawl. There are really lots of those in the shop now. Some of them are really beautiful.

Hi muetzekatze,

yes, I’d go with something lighter in terms of material—so preferably cotton, bamboo, or microfiber, rather than merino or wool.
I’d also choose a light openwork pattern that looks airy and loose.

I just finished my holiday triangular shawl.
For it, I chose a lightweight cotton-polyacrylic blend that’s really soft and cozy, along with an airy openwork pattern that creates beautiful waves as you knit—both along the edge and throughout the shawl—all in colors perfect for a beach vacation.
I also have to say that I find a triangular shawl a bit more versatile, since you can wear it as a shawl or drape it over your shoulders when you’re wearing a top, for example. It’s even big enough that if you drape it over your shoulders, bring the ends forward, then back under your arms, and tie them in a knot at the back, it almost looks like a little jacket.

I hope to finish the pattern in the next few days so that many can still be knitted before summer.

Best regards

Nici

Thanks, Hamster, I'd pretty much forgotten about that link.
