Cubic knitting needles

Hello to all you knitters out there!

Has anyone had any experience with cubic knitting needles (the square ones)?
Since I’ve heard from so many people who are totally raving about them, I naturally wanted to give them a try, but even after the first few rows, they still feel very unfamiliar in my hands.

Does it get better with time?
Or do I have to knit 10 pairs of socks and 3 sweaters first before I get used to them?
It would be great if you could share your experiences with me.

Kind regards

nici

Hi Nici
I don’t have any experience with them myself; I first had to Google them to understand what they’re good for.
http://www.topp-kreativ.de/kreativzirkel/handarbeiten/tipp+stricknadelneuheiten+eckige+nadeln+machen+tatsaechlich+runde+maschen.6009.18099.htm
I then browsed through threads on square knitting needles in various other crafting forums, and opinions are very divided. Some think they’re great and wouldn’t want to be without them anymore, others don’t like them at all, and the rest are somehow undecided ;)
Well,
I’m hoping a few people with experience on this topic will still speak up here in the thread,
because unfortunately I can’t contribute anything myself, but since you didn’t get a reply to your post all day, I at least wanted to leave you a few words here so you don’t think your topic wasn’t read.
Have fun with the square needles, and maybe with the round knitting needles again too :)

Thanks, muetzekatze - I’m still happy anyway *hug*
and I replied to you in the other thread about the different knitting needles

Hi everyone
I’ve knitted with them, and they feel great in my hands. I haven’t had any problems at all...

I’m going to Creativa on Sunday and expect to see some there—and maybe even try them out. Until I read your post, I didn’t even know such a thing existed.
Right now, I’m still not sure what the point of them is… why would you need square needles?

You’ve really piqued my curiosity now…

I have a set of double-pointed needles... the stitches don’t slip off the needle as easily. That happens to me quite often with a set of double-pointed needles. I knit with them a lot...

That’s true, Ullala—I hadn’t even thought of that.
I often use the short set of double-pointed needles, and that happens to me quite often too—that one needle slips out somehow.

Oh Melanie, I just read this—can I come along, please, please ♥♥
I really, really wanted to go there, too.
Unfortunately, I scheduled my Dortmund trip for the wrong weekend *grumble* and didn’t realize that Creativa would also be there four weeks earlier.

Let me know, and I’ll make up the guest bed ;o)

Hmm… I might be convinced by the set of double-pointed needles too…
Thanks, Ullala

Hi,
what are these square knitting needles? Does anyone have a picture of them?
Best regards

Unfortunately, it’s a bit too far for a Sunday outing, Melanie

Hi, I just read this post today. I have these needles in different sizes, but I’m not that thrilled with them. They feel good in the hand, but if you knit loosely like I do, the stitch definition isn’t very neat—even if you use smaller needle sizes. But that’s just my opinion.

Warm regards, Yvonne

I’ve gained more experience with them now—I’m currently knitting a shawl with them.
The feeling of them being unfamiliar in my hands went away after 3 days. (Maybe it’s also because I’m knitting with fairly thin needles.)  It’s just a little unusual not being able to turn the needle in the stitches, and my stitches sit very tightly on the needle, so they’re sometimes a bit hard to slide. Since I’m knitting a textured pattern with them, I can’t say whether the stitch pattern will be irregular—that might only become noticeable when knitting stockinette stitch.

Best regards and thanks for your feedback
