So I’ll go ahead and introduce myself: female, 60, beginner.
Since my “new” little dog was freezing so badly, I crocheted her a little coat (crooked and lopsided, made from colorful leftover yarn that didn’t necessarily match).... and in the process realized just how much I enjoy crocheting.
Ever since elementary school—which was 50 years ago and where I only made sweaty pot holders—it would never have occurred to me that needlework could be fun.
Well—after three little coats (hey—they get dirty, so you HAVE to have several :-) ), I started looking for “urgently needed” projects.
Good thing it’s winter right now—there are plenty of “victims” who need to be crocheted for:
1. My husband desperately needs wrist warmers when we walk the dogs, and so do I (anyone who’s ever tried to hand out treats to the dogs while wearing gloves or mittens knows just how practical these things are)
2. a beanie for me that’s way too loose and slips over my nose at the worst possible moments (it looks absolutely ridiculous, and you end up looking kind of—cough—weird, especially when you’ve got a little dog in a crocheted coat by your side....
3. Soul warmers—one for me, one for my husband—hey—he’s ALWAYS cold :-))—and one in rainbow-colored cozy yarn for my granddaughter and one for my daughter. That one’s now just lying around as decoration—she calls it “hygge.”
So—what now? I feel like an addict without a fix...
Quickly finished a jacket in lace with a color gradient.... wow—that doesn’t help me
kick the habit. These yarn cakes are sooo tempting.
A few amigurumi from the leftovers for the grandkids and the little dog.....before I run out of work....
Unfortunately, I hardly ever wear jackets—I’m a little worried that the “Frühlingsgefieder” (Spring Plumerage) I’m currently knitting will just sit in the closet a lot, even though I think it’s sooo beautiful. (Yep, I had to learn to knit 50 years ago, too :-)) )
Sigh.
Can anyone relate to how I’m feeling right now? :-))
I also have to admit that I’m particularly drawn to “crazy,” unusual pieces of clothing.
Or boho-style stuff. Another deep sigh...
Not exactly what you wear here in the countryside at 60.....cough...
Hmm—this has turned into a somewhat rambling post—but I’m feeling a little rambling myself right now :-)
New to a hobby that’s VERY foreign to me—unexpected and totally addictive.
“Of course,” there’s no one in my circle who understands me—I guess I’m just getting weird for my age^^^^
I’ve been one of the authors for just under a year.
At the moment, I’m a bit frustrated with crafting. I have lots of ideas in my head, but nothing is working out the way it should. Sales are still fairly modest. But it’s still going okay—there are a lot of authors around, after all.
Still, I’m not letting it get me down.
@angie-krainer
Even at 60, you can still dress in a funky way. That certainly sounds interesting. You’re really in the middle of a crafting-stress phase. Do you even still have time to walk your dog?
@angie-krainer
Wear whatever you like—even if it’s just at home!
And don’t let anyone tell you you’re weird! You’ll see—there are tons of people just like you here! Stick with it, and you’ll see: soon everyone will want something you’ve crocheted (or knitted)!
