Do you remember the little blue milk cans with the white dots? You can crochet a potholder like this very easily.

The following techniques should be familiar:
  • Crocheting in rows
  • Chain stitches
  • Crocheting single crochet stitches
  • Crocheting double crochet stitches
  • Increases and decreases
  • Color changes
(The bobble pattern for the dots is explained in the pattern)

You will need about
  • 60 g blue cotton yarn (125 m/50 g)
  • 30 g white cotton yarn
  • 3 mm crochet hook
You can find the pattern here!

A great opportunity to learn Tunisian crochet with this:

Potholder 'So Green It Greens' - Tunisian crocheted

(Please click the image to purchase/download)

..as kitchen decor or for real use as a potholder made from 100% cotton – a useful little gift for all kinds of occasions.

Both the PDF pattern for the potholder and the pattern for the crochet flower(s) are illustrated step by step.

Material
:
For 1 standard-size potholder, 21 cm x 21 cm:
50 g light green + 50 g dark green crochet yarn made from 100% cotton/plant fiber for heat resistance, e.g. Schoeller+Stahl Record 210, 50 g- 90 m, according to the ball band 16 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm), so 50 g per color for the Tunisian crochet hook up to a maximum size of 4.5.

For the flower(s), a leftover ball of cotton yarn is sufficient, e.g. Catania (Schachenmayr) or Limone (Schoeller+Stahl), for crochet hook size 2.5 - 3.5.

Note: heat-resistant cotton yarn (= potholder yarn) is only lightly twisted and is therefore difficult to crochet with, especially for beginners, because the yarn splits very easily. So if heat resistance is not that important to you, for example if you won’t place a hot pot on the potholder, you can also crochet with a cotton-blend yarn, e.g. Pantino by Schoeller+Stahl.

In addition, we need a measuring tape, scissors, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends

General crochet skills are enough; the Tunisian crochet technique is explained with pictures.

This is it, the typical classic for crochet beginners:

Crochet pattern for potholders - the crochet classic

(To purchase/download, please click the image)

For this, you need 50 g of cotton yarn per color for a size 4.5 crochet hook. Beginners should use a tightly twisted yarn if possible.

The PDF pattern is illustrated, but it is not a crochet course in itself.

The following basic crochet skills are required:
(turning) chain stitch, single crochet, and slip stitch
