Baby Bobbel: Question + Pattern Tip

Dear users, dear authors,
once in a while you read something about so-called baby bobbels.
Here’s my question:
Are baby bobbels leftovers from regular bobbels/gradient yarn, or are they bobbels that were wound with a short yardage right from the start? It would be nice if you’d like to tell me something about that.

Here’s a pretty pattern for using baby bobbels:

So, now I’ll ask after all. I’ve also really enjoyed crocheting with Bobbel since this summer—the beautiful designs here really got me excited to try it myself.
I’ve found that they come with more or less yardage, too. But I’ve never heard of “baby Bobbels” before.
I’d be grateful if someone could explain it to me.

And to everyone who still crochets a lot with Bobbel—what do you do with the leftovers? I never manage to use it all up. That’s because I always think it’s better to have more, so that I don’t run out before the project is finished.
And now I’ve got all these leftovers at home. They’re a bit too thin for the little animals I usually make.

So I’d be very grateful for any ideas for Bobbel leftovers.

Hello everyone :)

I’m not familiar with “Baby Bobbel” as a set term either, but I think it simply refers to very small bobbels that are used for hats or similar items. Most winders who work by hand work according to customer wishes, so they’ll also make very small bobbels if needed.

About the leftovers:
Of course they’re waaay too good to throw away, so I always make hats or shawls from them.
When I have enough similar colors together, it becomes a hat with puff stitches; when I have lots of different colorful colors left over, I usually make a half-granny shawl.
Because of the simple pattern, it also looks great when the colors come in really wildly, without any set order. It’s a great little project for in between, and I always donate these leftover projects :-)

Mottled shirts and the like are back in style. Can you achieve this effect with Bobbels too?

@Josefa: If you have the Bobbel wound accordingly, you’ll definitely be able to achieve that effect :)
For example, I can imagine that it would work if, say, a 4-ply Bobbel were wound from gray and black, with the proportions of the two colors alternating at short intervals.
That would be really interesting :)

Yeah, exactly, that’s what I meant.
It’s trending right now, so go for it :-)

I can easily imagine that it turns out mottled if the Bobbel is worked from both ends.

I’m not familiar with the term “Babybobbel” either.
My yarn dealer does offer “Mini Bobbelinchen,” though.
