This is totally IN—whether for girls or boys:

Knitting pattern for a baby traditional vest, size 86/92, with intarsia cable

(For purchase/download, please click the image)

..and not just during Oktoberfest season..

For this special sleeveless baby vest without buttons, we need:

150 g merino wool in gray + 50 g merino wool in red, here Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine 120, 50 g – 120 m yardage, gauge according to the label: 22 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitting needles 3.0–4.0; here: knitting needle 4.0, cable needle, crochet hook 3.5 for the bow, stitch holder or similar for placing stitches on hold, yarn needle for weaving in ends, stitch marker is helpful.

The PDF pattern is illustrated.

The red cable on the back is worked in intarsia technique (illustrated explanation is included) and requires some time and skill—I therefore would not recommend it for beginning knitters.

The cable also looks nice in solid gray, and then the whole piece knits up pretty quickly. For beginning knitters, I recommend therefore knitting this vest completely without the cable and/or in one solid color .

Alpaca never goes out of style and can be worn all year round...
But this accessory also looks great in merino.

A beautiful, elegant scarf worked in a sophisticated cable pattern.

The scarf is approximately 180 cm long and about 38 cm wide.
The included knitting chart guides you through the pattern.

And here's the pattern and more details...

These red leggings for toddlers look really great with the stripes, are very comfortable, and just right for the cool season. Thanks to the gusset, they have a perfect fit, both with a diaper and without. And the best part: they grow with your child for a while.

The pattern describes all steps in detail, and most of them are also supplemented with photos.

Difficulty level: easy to intermediate

As a beginner, you should have the following basic skills:

  • Knit stitches, purl stitches, and knitting in the round
  • Knitting with a set of double-pointed needles and circular knitting needle
  • Increasing stitches from one stitch (also explained here)
  • Decreases (knitting 2 stitches together)
  • Binding off stitches
  • Changing colors in the round
  • Knitting a double hem cuff, similar to a picot edge (also briefly explained in the pattern)
The leggings are knitted in one piece from top to bottom, so they have no seams.Click here for the knitting pattern for the toddler leggings.

These red-and-white fingerless mitts, or wrist warmers, keep your hands warm even on chilly days—both outdoors and indoors. The advantage: your hands stay free, and you can use them just as you would without the mitts. They serve me well when I’m sitting at the computer or doing fall gardening.

The pattern is easy for beginners to make. The pattern includes all steps and many detailed photos, including of the stitch pattern.

You should have the following basic skills:

  • Knit stitches, purl stitches, and knitting in the round
  • Knitting with a set of double-pointed needles
  • Binding off stitches
  • Changing colors in the round
  • Knitting slipped stitches (briefly explained with photos in the pattern)

A truly cute stop sign for the bedroom door is this adorable little bear or the guardian owl. They watch over every door, and the whole family will enjoy these useful helpers.

The owl and the little bear are green on the other side—and that means entry to the room is clear. You get both together in the value set, so everyone in the family can have their own guardian, just the way they like. Who knows, maybe lots of them will end up under the Christmas tree and bring jumps of joy.

These sweet little guardian animals can also be easily made by crochet beginners with basic skills. Every step is shown in detail in the patterns, and there are lots of photos to go with them.

Here is the crochet pattern for the owl and little bear value set.

Have you noticed this too? There are hardly any red squirrels left—almost only gray ones! But they’re so cute! We have to do something about this! Crochet as many red squirrels as you like using red yarn. They won’t let the gray ones push them out. Use Catania cotton yarn, and for the ear tufts and tail, use Peppina fringed yarn from Lana Grossa.

Crochet pattern: cash gift as Christmas decoration

Santa Claus is doing laundry, and as you can see, he’s wearing red. With all that washing, he really doesn’t feel like wrapping presents anymore, so this year he’s putting money or gift cards into his gift sack.

Details & pattern are available here

After the sack has been emptied, the whole thing can still be used as a fun decoration.
Even beginners, with this pattern written without abbreviations,
will have a sense of achievement.

As for materials, leftover yarn is enough; if you don’t have plush yarn on hand, other yarn will of course work too.

Rosebud Shawl

This lovely rosebud design is created using red gradient yarn and a contrasting color (white in this case). The abstract rose petals are formed with short rows.
You’ll need:
  • a 200 g skein of 4-ply gradient yarn, salmon to dark red
  • 50 g Online Line 110 Timona, white
  • 4.0 mm knitting needle

This will make a shawl measuring 220 x 70 cm. Click here for the pattern

I really like red in a softer shade or combined with other colors. The MALOU wrist warmers are—as you can see—great in many color variations, but the red-melange version is one of my favorites....
You can knit them with any 4-ply sock yarn or—as shown here with the red model—with "Mille Colori Baby" by Lang and a set of double-pointed needles size 2.5. I think they would definitely make a really wonderful Christmas gift for favorite daughters, favorite friends, favorite moms....

It's best to start knitting right away; here is the pattern:

Happy knitting from
