Crocheting a raglan from the top (RvO)

Hi everyone,
since I’m currently crocheting a sweater using the top-down raglan method, I’d love to get your advice.
I’ve found two different ways to divide the fabric. One is into four equal parts, and the other is more rectangular (meaning the two long sides are the same—front and back—and the two short sides are the same—sleeves). I hope that makes sense.

So my question is, which method is better, or does it not matter? How will the sleeves look at the top? Will there be any differences in appearance between the two methods later on? This is my first attempt.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I understand what you mean.
I think if you choose the second option, the sleeves will fit better later on.
I’m curious to see what you decide.

Best regards

Good morning!

The first method works well for batwing sweaters, and the second for regular-fitting tops!

Best regards

Good morning,

Thank you so much for this information; I’ll go with the second option.

Best regards

Hi,
I’m currently trying my hand at a hooded sweater or jacket. The yarn is thicker than what’s specified in the pattern. So I used a stitch calculator to work out how many stitches I’d need with a thicker needle, because my first attempt turned out too stiff. So far, it’s nice and soft and looks good, but there isn’t enough length to join the sleeves. So I increased three stitches instead of two, and also in the middle every other row. But the second raglan corner—basically the back sleeve corner—sits too far over on the back. How can I adjust this? I’m already so frustrated that I want to unravel it all and start over.

I’m only familiar with Option 2. One-third each for the front and back, with the last third for the sleeves—so one-sixth each.
