Hey everyone, maybe someone here can help me—I’m practically at my wits’ end! As I’ve done so many times before, I bought a great pattern for a little crocheted pumpkin man.
Row 3: 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet in the last slip stitch of Row 2,
4 half double crochets, *increase with half double crochet, 1 half double crochet* 4 times, increase with half double crochet, 3 half double crochets, 2 single crochets, 1 slip stitch. Guide: 7 stitches to the marker.
If there are 7 stitches left until the marker, then you’ve crocheted everything correctly! ;)
I just can’t figure out how and where I need to increase.
I only need to finish the feet, but I can’t seem to get it right. Please, can someone explain to me what I need to do and how? Thanks, Paula
Is it the part between the asterisks that’s causing trouble? To increase with half double crochets, work 2 half double crochets into the same stitch, then work 1 half double crochet into the next stitch. Then repeat the whole sequence 3 more times (so a total of 4 times for the part between the asterisks). After that, you move on to the next section, and once you’ve done that, there should still be 7 stitches “unworked” up to a marker that was apparently placed in the previous row.
I did ask, but she said she couldn’t explain it any better than the pattern does—she told me to just start working on it… but I don’t know how! I’ve finished everything else on the little pumpkin man and really want to finish it. I can do everything and understand it all, but I don’t know how that’s meant. I guess I’ll just have to whip up a pair of little feet myself.
Thanks for the reply
P.S. Of course, I asked "strickglueck" again last night, but unfortunately I didn’t get a reply.
Rnd 3: ch 1, 1 sc in the last sl st of Rnd 2,
4 hdc, *increase with hdc, 1 hdc* 4 times, increase with hdc, 3 hdc, 2 sc, 1 sl st. Guide – 7 stitches to the marker.
If there are 7 stitches left to the marker, then you crocheted everything correctly! ;)
So I read it like this: ch 1, then 1 sc in the same stitch (so directly under the ch, then 1 hdc in each of the next 4 stitches, then *2 hdc in next st (so increase here), 1 hdc in next st* and crochet that 4 times, then 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sl st - you should now have 24 stitches in total at the end, if I haven’t miscounted.
I don’t know any other way to put it right now, sorry. But maybe this already helps a bit. Everyone does write their instructions differently after all.
So, I’m guessing you’re supposed to crochet as follows:
Crochet 3 hdc, then work 2 hdc into each of the next 5 stitches (that’s the hdc increase 5 times), then crochet 3 hdc again, 1 single crochet, and 1 slip stitch.
Just give it a try. As you wrote, you’ll have 3 stitches left at the end. You may want to check row 1 again. Maybe a mistake already slipped in there.
