Dear users and authors,
what is Tunisian crochet and how do you do it?
What are the pros and cons of Tunisian crochet?
Thank you for your helpful answers.
For Tunisian crochet projects, you’ll need a long crochet hook or, alternatively, a crochet hook from a system (such as KnitPro) that can be extended with a cord.
You start with a row of chain stitches (just like in regular crochet). In the first row, you then pick up a stitch from each chain stitch and place it on the crochet hook. In the second row, you then work off two loops at a time with a new loop (so with each stitch, there is one fewer stitch on the hook). In the third row, you pick up all the loops again, but this time (and every subsequent odd row) from the loops that lie in front of the stitches worked off in the previous row.
There are plenty of YouTube videos on Tunisian crochet, or "sträkeln," as well as a dedicated Facebook group. New and very attractive patterns are frequently shared in this group.

Hello Veronika Hug,
welcome to our forum and portal. Advertising is only allowed here in the forum in the designated advertising threads. You can find them here

There, you can post your patterns in threads that match the topic.
You can add the link to the Facebook group in your signature, and it will then appear below each of your forum posts.
I usually delete advertising from posts, but since this is your first post here on the forum, I'll leave it up this time.
I’ve learned a lot from your YouTube videos; it would be great if you could contribute to the forum more often.
Best of luck
Hi Josefa, Thanks for the nice welcome... I wasn’t really thinking about advertising here—I was more interested in answering your question about “Tunisian crochet.” That’s why I’m glad you’re leaving the links up.
The technique is so versatile that it’s hard to cover it all in a concise text.
Best regards, Veronika
@ Hi Josefa,
Tunisian crochet is a very beautiful crochet technique. I would always use a sturdy, long crochet hook—not the kind you can extend with a cord. It’s easier to work with. The result is a very firm and dense fabric that’s very durable. It looks beautiful, especially when working with multiple colors. It’s perfect for bags and pillows.
