I found a picture online showing crocheted flowers. Now I’m really curious to know how to crochet these petals. I don’t need a whole flower, just a single petal (pink, light blue). Could someone who’s a bit more experienced maybe give me a little help? I’d really appreciate it. :) http://perchica.ru/post354817109/
it’s really simple.
Start by making a few chain stitches (LM), then work 1 single crochet (sc) into each chain. In the last chain, work 3 (or maybe 5) sc, and then on the underside, work 1 sc into each chain. Make a turning chain, work 1 sc into each stitch, and where you just made the increase, increase again (just give it a try!) and repeat this back and forth until the leaf is big enough.
Yes, that’s one way to crochet it :), but in the photo that was posted, the petals aren’t crocheted quite so “symmetrically” — in the middle of the petal, it almost looks as if one row is shorter than the other, and I almost think that it wasn’t just single crochet stitches used there either. (?)
I’d do it similarly to what Nina already described to you. So, start with a foundation chain of, say, 10 chain stitches, and work single crochet into it. In the last stitch, work 2 or 3 single crochets or half double crochets if you want it to get wider toward the top. Then work back along the underside, but only for, say, 7 stitches so it gets narrower toward the bottom. Work slip stitches into the remaining stitches, then make a turning chain, turn your work, and crochet around the leaf again—the lower stitches with slip stitches, the upper stitches with single crochet or half double crochet if you want it wider. Make sure to work several stitches into one insertion point at the top curve—for example, always 2 or 3 into one—so the curve turns out nicely. At the end, pull the leaf together slightly at the bottom with the yarn; this will make it a bit narrower there as well. Just experiment a little, and you’ll definitely get the hang of it.
Have fun!
Best regards, Jana
the tutorial is a good idea, but the flower shown by the thread starter isn’t crocheted in Tunisian crochet, even though two rows in the middle look almost like it.
Hi Nina,
Each petal was first worked in Tunisian crochet and then edged with single crochet (SC). Once I’ve written the pattern for it, you’ll see that it’s Tunisian crochet.
Best regards,
Tanja
OK, sounds interesting. At first, I couldn’t imagine it was Tunisian crochet because of the single crochet stitches, but a combination is certainly possible. I’ve done a little Tunisian crochet myself, but there are different techniques, of course. I’m curious.
Hello moal,
the pattern is finished and can be found on the blog.
Best regards
Tanja
