New Yarn Swap Package No. 4/2022

Hello, dear all,

for everyone who didn’t go on vacation and is hanging around during the summer lull, here comes a little surprise: a new yarn swap package is starting! I’ve just packed almost 5 kg of yarn into a large box. Lots of colorful, interesting, and surprising yarns are once again waiting to be discovered, admired, touched, chosen, and swapped by you.

We are looking for 9 participants. Everyone who wants to take part in the swap ring, please sign up here in this thread.

The swap ring works like this:

I am the initiator of this swap ring and will pack a 5 kg package with yarn. I will ask all participants beforehand by email for their names, addresses, preferences, and dislikes regarding yarn and will use that to put together a participant list. Anyone who wants to can then take the preferences and dislikes into account when packing the package. Anyone who doesn’t specify anything here will simply be surprised.

The data will not be published here on CP. I will put the list I created into my freshly packed yarn package. I will send it at my own expense to No. 2 on the list.

Participant No. 2 on the list receives the package and picks out whatever she likes from it. She puts yarn of equal value into the package to replace the yarn taken out. The list goes back into the package. Participant No. 2 then sends the package at her own expense to participant No. 3 on the list. The list goes back into the package again, and so on and so forth. In the end, the package comes back to me because I am the last address on the list. I will then destroy the list with the data.

When it is sent off, the package must always have the same weight, so that everyone has the same amount to choose from and the postage is the same for every participant.

Attention: Unfortunately, DHL has raised the postage for a 5 kg package to 6.99 euros. Please keep that in mind before you sign up to participate.

Once the swap package has started, I will create a separate thread. We will always write in there where the package currently is. It would be nice if every participant posted a photo of the treasures they snagged. Then everyone can be a little happy along with them—or annoyed that they didn’t join in. 

Summary of the rules:

1. The package must not weigh more than 5 kg so that the DHL postage remains the same for all participants.
2. Every ball of yarn must have a label.
3. Several balls of yarn of the same type only need one label.
4. The yarn taken out is always replaced with equivalent-quality yarn.
5. Only yarn should be swapped.

This comes at just the right time for me because - how could it be otherwise - I don’t have the right yarn for a new project. I’m sure it’s in there. This time, I actually need a different kind of yarn than usual. ;-)

 I actually started working with yarn from the second swap package last night 😊 (Photos are coming in the other thread 👍) 
A yarn package is coming at just the “right” time—my home is “surrounded by scaffolding,” and the roofer is starting work next week... It’s going to be loud and uncomfortable.

But of course, monalisa2662, you’re welcome to join too. I’m glad you decided to give it a try. It’s a lot of fun and keeps things exciting. You’ll be eagerly awaiting your package, but you’ll also look forward to seeing the treasures others have found in theirs. So you’re more than welcome to join in. You don’t have to worry about anything else—once we have all the participants, I’ll contact everyone personally.

would any of you like a set of double-pointed needles as well?
I’m selling them (made of bamboo, imported from Asia, and I have plenty in several sizes), or stitch markers. I have those available too and would be happy to include them if you’d like.

Dear Margitta, that’s a nice idea of yours, but this swap package should contain only wool for swapping. Otherwise, the next person might include a craft book, and the one after that might add this or that. That would reduce the amount of wool available—which is what this is all about.

You’re welcome to offer the needles in a new thread. I’m sure you’ll find takers there.
