I knitted this cardigan for my granddaughter using cotton yarn cake. The stripes are worked in using matching scraps. The cardigan fits from approximately size 92.

I really enjoy working with effect yarn because it lets you give your crochet projects a very special touch. Little animals in particular become truly realistic when you use plush yarn, chenille yarn, or eyelash yarn.
Squirrel Kiki
would be only half as cute, for example, without its bushy tail made of eyelash yarn. You can also achieve the bushy effect with mohair yarns or acrylic wool if you brush them out thoroughly with a pet brush.

  Hedgehog Ingo
was crocheted with chenille yarn. This gives him a velvety soft body. To make sure the spines don’t prick but are nice and soft, they were crocheted with eyelash yarn. The yarn used here (Brazilia) has a lovely color gradient, which gives the back an interesting brindled look.


But I also like to use effect yarns for doll clothes, especially for edging and hemming.

The 3 princess dresses were crocheted with glitter yarn and edged with plush yarn or scrubby yarn. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bit scratchy or tickly, because the little dolls can’t complain anyway. ;-))
