Mother’s Day, Father’s Day—happy are those who still have their mother and father. Sadly, I had to let mine go many years ago. But when I imagine they were still alive, I would certainly make them happy with these things.
For my mother Christa I would make the following things:
Felt insoles
You can put them in any shoes and would always have warm feet from underneath and a soft step. Very nice to make from leftover yarn.
Cowl
A cowl. She would probably think it was newfangled (back then people only had scarves; no one knew cowls). But looped like this, you can also wear it as a scarf. Beautiful soft wool keeps you warm.
Wrist warmers with a decorative cable
Here she would wonder where the rest of the “glove” is. But when going shopping, for example, it’s really practical. You have warm hands and don’t have to touch the shopping basket—and your fingers are free to handle your wallet. Plus, the wool warms the finger joints and the wrist (arthritis).
Felt moccasins
She could have worn them from spring through fall and would always have warm feet. The sole is non-slip, so she would be safe walking around the apartment in them. Since her favorite color was red, I would make these for her:
Cardigan with shawl collar
This would be her favorite. She would wear it every day. Older women are always cold and need real wool, and in a comfortable cardigan. It absolutely has to have pockets, go down over the bottom, and have a belt.
Heart pendant
I would give it to her as a lucky charm. She could scent it with her favorite fragrance and hang it in the closet. Older people always want to know what you need something for. Just lying around, they don’t want that.
Scarf with pearl lace
Oh, she would be amazed that I can DIY something so fine and light. She would definitely save this scarf “for special occasions.” And I would have to persuade her to wear it more often, because it is wonderfully soft and keeps you nice and warm. In white, it goes with everything.
One-Step Felt Booties
I would give them to her for fall and winter. They keep the feet and ankles wonderfully warm (if the ankle is warm, the whole foot is warm). With them, you always have warm feet, and they are breathable too. You can even put in your own orthopedic insoles, if you have any.
Craft bucket
She would definitely like it because it keeps all her bits and bobs together and has a handle. If you don’t crochet, you can store other things in it too.
Maybe there were a few ideas for your Mother’s Day gift here. I would be happy about that. I wish you lots of joy with everything, and please be happiest of all that you still have each other.
Best wishes, Ina
