Which wool / yarn do you currently like best?

I don’t have one specific favorite yarn that I use for everything. It’s important to me that the yarn, the project (and, if applicable, the pattern) go well together. For example, I would never knit a baby jacket from angora yarn because the child could inhale the inevitable fuzz. And I don’t think potholders in a lace pattern make much sense either. :-)

I really like Schachenmayr yarn. We had a factory outlet right around the corner. So 95% of my stash is made up of this yarn. 

I really like the Merino 120—I’ve already knitted quite a few hats and arm warmers with it. 

And my absolute favorite is Tahiti, which is 99% cotton. I love the summer shawls I make with it. Whether crocheted or knitted, it’s my favorite. 

I’m still a huge fan of cotton. I’ve knit quite a few things from cozy alpaca yarn, but I prefer working with cotton yarn.

In the summer, I love crocheting and knitting with cotton—there’s a great selection of colors, and cotton feels very comfortable against the skin.

Last winter, I discovered Brigitte Wool No. 2, a blend of alpaca, cotton, and a little virgin wool. It’s extremely soft and comfortable to wear; I’ve used it to make baby booties and a few small scarves (for adults). There’s a very pretty shade of blue that goes well with jeans.

I also really like Lana Grossa’s Cool Wool—a beautiful merino wool that feels great against the skin and is very easy to work with. The yarn works up beautifully.
