St. Nicholas door wreath

I like to use leftover sponge yarn because it has such a beautiful sheen and creates amazing effects. This is especially true for Christmas crochet projects.
Here are a few examples:

For St. Nicholas in the reindeer sleigh, I used cotton yarn (Catania, LL 125 m / 50 g) as the base material. The fur trim and Santa’s beard are crocheted with fur yarn (Lenja baby smiles). Finally, the sleigh is edged with gold-colored sponge yarn. The runners of the sleigh are made from craft sticks (ice cream sticks).



A wide variety of materials were also used for the angels in the sky globe. The globe is an acrylic hemisphere (available at craft stores) and is crocheted around with cotton yarn containing glitter thread (Catania Glamour). The angel is crocheted with cotton yarn. For the hair, I used metallic angel hair; the little wings are made of tulle with sequins. The angel holds a metal star in its hand. Finally, the globe was edged once more with sponge yarn.



For the Christmas egg cozies, I rummaged through my scrap box and crocheted everything I had in the way of Christmas-themed yarn: cotton yarn in Christmas colors, gold glitter yarn, teddy wool for Santa’s beard and fur trim, as well as the angel’s wings and hair.

This cozy cowl tells the story of little puppy Filou, who spends a wonderful day with his friends in the park. The eyelash yarn along the top and bottom edges is the fashionable finishing touch. It is knitted in double-face, which makes the cowl nice and dense and warm; it can also be worn on both sides.
