Owls, Mermaids, Unicorns, and Flamingos: Make Them Now

Dear users, dear authors,
get new and tried-and-true designs for owls, unicorns, mermaids, and flamingos. Have fun with them.

Marina, the mermaid, is about 40 cm tall, making her the perfect size for cuddling and taking along. She also fits perfectly into a nautical-themed decor.
For Marina, I used the following materials:

• 1 skein of Rico Baby Classic (165 m/50 g) in skin tone (color 038)
• 1 skein each of Rico Baby Glitz (165 m/50 g) in mint and aqua (colors 004 and 001)
• 1 skein of blue mohair yarn (Aerea by Junghans Wolle) for the hair
• Leftovers: thin cotton yarn (Catania Fine) in white, light pink, pink, and hot pink,
• leftover glitter yarn (Gründl) in silver-gray
• 2.5 mm crochet hook
• 2.0 mm crochet hook
• Polyester stuffing
• 1 thick sewing needle for sewing and joining the pieces
• 1 pointed embroidery needle for embroidering the face
• Embroidery floss in black and pink
• 2 pieces of chenille wire (pipe cleaners), each about 35 cm long

If you want to turn a little fashion doll into a mermaid, all you need are a few leftover bits of yarn. Aqua shades look especially beautiful, but you can also use the doll owner's favorite colors. She'll definitely be thrilled!

Violetta is a very special unicorn because she can be ridden like a hobby horse. The “stick” here isn’t made of stiff wood, but rather a soft pool noodle, so that furniture won’t get scratched if she bumps into it, and the risk of injury is minimized even during wild play. And if Violetta is loved so much that she’s invited into bed at night—why not? She’s wonderfully soft all over and perfect for cuddling and loving!

These flamingos in love are not only a pretty eye-catcher in your kitchen, but also extremely useful—they like it hot :-) The potholders are knitted in double-face. Thanks to the double knitting, they keep the heat away well, and they look beautiful on both sides too.

The “Life is magic” gym bag is a dream for all unicorn fans! The bottom of the gym bag is crocheted, and the rest is knitted in double-face. A carried-along glitter thread makes the bag sparkle even more beautifully in the light.

Especially in times of working from home, this owl is a fun and reliable "doorman"—or rather, a door hanger. It clearly shows whether work is being done in the room (office) or whether the person in the room is available to talk.

This door guardian is also a big hit with children. After all, they have their little secrets too. ;-)

The guardian owl *Ruhu* is very easy to crochet, also suitable for beginners. It's a great way to use up various scraps.

This jumping jack owl works just like other jumping jack figures: pulling the string sets the figure in motion.

But there’s a little extra here: the wings and tail fan out.



Everyone probably knows the basic steps—like cutting, gluing, and tying knots—needed to make this owl. What’s required here, in addition, is perseverance and the ability to work precisely. Crafting experience and technical understanding would also be helpful.

The owl is made of photo cardstock and measures approximately 22.5 x 27.5 cm.
