Crochet Hook with 2 Hooks

Good morning everyone,

first Ines66 wished for a crochet hook with 2 hooks here in the Christmas calendar for door 6

We're filling our own Advent calendar - forum game - General Forum (crazypatterns.net)

Yesterday I saw these hooks on Facebook in a handicrafts group.

Do you know these hooks? Does anyone already have a crochet hook like this? What do you crochet with it? How do you crochet with it?

Lots of questions. I think they're pretty and I'm curious too. But I wonder whether the 2nd hook at the bottom doesn't always get caught on my crochet work.

Or do you not crochet with it like with a "normal" crochet hook, but in a special way?

Good morning

I know these hooks and even have some myself. There are also ones that you can connect with a cord. You use them for Tunisian crochet.

You can work in rounds with them (hats, wrist warmers, baskets, lamps, bags). For that, you need two tips so you can work around the curve.

Best regards, Marion

Thanks, Marion

So they’re for Tunisian crochet. I’ll have to look it up online. I’ve admired lots of bags made with this technique, but I’ve never tried it myself.

So is a hook like this used roughly like a set of double-pointed needles in knitting?

Hi Petra,
No, it’s not like a set of double-pointed needles. With that set, you have 5 needles; here, you only have one piece.

In Tunisian crochet, all the loops are first picked up from right (A) to left (B) onto the entire hook and then worked back from B to A as the wrong side row. That’s why you need the long hook. These are two separate steps, but they count as one row.

If you want to crochet in rounds, there comes a point where you can’t go any further with the long hook—you can’t pick up any more loops.
That’s when you need the second tip, and you have to work through part of the stitches again. Then you continue with the first tip. This process is repeated over and over.

I’m afraid I can’t explain it any better than that. But there are definitely some videos online that you can watch.

Maybe someone here can explain it better to you—there are quite a few people who do Tunisian crochet. I bought a book myself and just gave it a try. I really enjoy Tunisian crochet and have already made a few pieces.

Best regards, Marion

Marion, thanks again. As you suggested, I’ll just watch a video online sometime.

But now at least I know what this crochet hook is used for.

Thank you :-)

Wishing you a lovely 3rd Sunday of Advent

I use these hooks when I want to crochet a project in the round using Tunisian crochet.

Oh dear, I’ve certainly raised a lot of questions, sorry :) but I think they’ve already been answered quite well. To my shame, I have to admit that I only got my double-ended crochet hook last week and will be starting a project with it soon. I’m fascinated by Tunisian crochet, and this hook is perfect for crocheting in the round. There are several videos about it on YouTube.
I especially like the Tunisian full stitch, for example for flower pots or similar things.

Best wishes, Ines

Thanks, Ines, for your reply. I’m really looking forward to seeing your projects with the two hooks.

In the meantime, I’ve been browsing the web a bit and think it looks very interesting. Maybe I’ll dig deeper into my search after the holidays.

Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Petra, I’ve also been inspired by these great things online and I have to try them out. My friend has started making some really clever pot holders—also with the double-ended crochet hook.
I’ll start after the holidays, too, and I’ll be happy to show them here then.

Best regards

I’m really curious to see the pot holders if you make them too.
I read that you can crochet in two colors with that hook, and that gives you two nice sides.

Have fun trying it out

I just ordered a book a little while ago—Tunisian Crochet in Rounds—where this hook comes in handy. Let’s see what I can show you first; I’ll have to practice a bit first, haha...
