Dear users, dear authors,
here you will find beginner-friendly children’s toy patterns that can possibly also be made with leftover yarn.
Have fun making them.

@Authors,
2-3 patterns per author are enough. Patterns for all types of crafts can be presented, as long as they are beginner-friendly. Don’t forget links, images, info, etc.

The crocheted locomotive Emmy is a great toy, especially for the very little ones! She’s soft and cuddly, has no sharp edges or corners that could cause injury, and can even be washed if needed! So it’s no problem at all if Emmy is explored by mouth. Inside, there’s room for little dolls about 10 cm in size.

The locomotive looks complicated, but it’s really not: The individual parts of the locomotive consist of very simple basic shapes that even beginners can easily master. All it takes is a little patience and time to sew the individual parts together.

Little angels and little devils are constantly torn between good and evil, but when it really matters they stick together after all—just as children sometimes do! With these two crocheted hand puppets, you can act out these conflicts wonderfully and resolve them through play.
The little angel and little devil are not hard to crochet.
You will need:
For the angel: yarn used:
  • 30 g Bohème Katia velvet fine (yardage 160 m / 50 g) green-blue
  • 20 g Catania cotton yarn by Schachenmayr (yardage 125 m / 50 g) soft apricot
  • 10 g Rico Baby Glitz (yardage 165 m/50 g) aqua
  • 8 - 10 g Primo doll yarn by Woll Butt (yardage 50 m / 50 g) blond
  • leftover golden glitter yarn by Gründel
  • leftover cotton yarn in black, red, white
  • leftover Creative Bubble by Rico (yardage 90 m / 50 g) light blue
For the devil: yarn used:
  • 30 g Bohème Velvet by GoHandmade (yardage 190 m / 50 g) black
  • 20 g Catania cotton yarn by Schachenmayr (yardage 125 m / 50 g) tomato
  • 10 g Catania cotton yarn by Schachenmayr (yardage 125 m / 50 g) signal red
  • 8 g Primo doll yarn by Woll Butt (yardage 50 m / 50 g) black
  • leftover cotton yarn in black
  • leftover Creative Bubble by Rico (yardage 90 m / 50 g) red
(The suggested yarn is only a recommendation. Any yarn of a similar thickness can be used. Cotton yarn and
acrylic yarn are also very suitable.)Here is the crochet pattern for the two hand puppets, Little Angel and Little Devil!

Little Angel and Little Devil are part of my hand puppet collection. You can find it here:

This balloon cover is crocheted from individual granny squares and sewn together at the end. To make the granny squares, you’ll need to know how to do chain stitches, double crochets, and slip stitches. The pattern shows exactly how to assemble the individual granny squares step by step. The balloon is replaced through a hidden opening.

These two cuddly toys are crocheted in two parts, which are joined together at the end with a round of single crochet stitches.

For Dino Pauli, the front and back are crocheted in one piece. Depending on the yarn and hook size, you can achieve a height of 31 cm and a length of 40 cm.

For the little bunny, the tail is crocheted separately and has to be sewn on.

For both patterns, you’ll need to know how to make chain stitches, single crochet stitches, and increase/decrease stitches. The pattern is described row by row.

The food for the play kitchen is very easy and quick to crochet from leftover yarn. The little ones will be delighted when they can now feed their favorites themselves too. Included are toast, a fried egg, noodles, various vegetables, and butter.

This little shopping bag for the pretend shop can also be crocheted quickly and easily from leftover yarn. The carrots and lemons are also included, so the bag can be filled right away.

The lemon tartlet tarte au citron, a classic from French patisserie, is a highlight for a children's play shop and children's coffee table.

The lemon tartlet is very easy and quick to crochet, even for beginners. Since you only need a very small amount of yarn in white, yellow, and beige, you can give your leftover yarn a new lease on life with the lemon tartlet.

You can get the crochet pattern for the lemon tartlet here

How about a paper doll? This classic toy has been played with by many children for generations and is very easy to make yourself!

The Mila doll is about 25.6 cm tall and already fully drawn; all you need to do is print her out, glue her onto sturdier paper, and cut her out. You can also find some outfits, e.g. the pictured summer collection in my store.

Theo the Duck
is a cute toy even for the littlest ones.

With 1 skein of yellow cotton yarn, a small leftover bit of orange, and a black thread for the eyes, you can get started right away. Theo also looks cute in all other colors, so you can work your way through your leftover stash with all your remaining skeins.

Theo can ride along in the stroller, be taken to kindergarten in a backpack, and loves to cuddle.

Here is the pattern

This jumping jack owl is not only fun to play with but also very decorative. It works just like other jumping jack figures: pulling the string sets the figure in motion.

The owl is made of photo cardstock and measures approximately 22.5 x 27.5 cm. It’s actually
not difficult to make: The detailed instructions, along with the
positioning and assembly guides, explain and demonstrate everything, but some
prior crafting experience is still recommended.

Eddy the Baby Unicorn with Bottle and Diaper (Crochet Pattern – PDF) – MAGNETIC!

Eddy is the perfect playmate for unicorn lovers of all ages! A hidden magnet in his mouth allows Eddy to hold his pacifier in his mouth all by himself! His bottle is also equipped with a magnet, so he can drink from it all by himself.

The pattern is easy to understand and includes numerous photos!
What makes it special: In this crochet pattern, the ears, arms, and legs are crocheted on directly and do NOT need to be sewn on!
