Blankets are always a lovely gift for the birth of a baby. You really can’t go wrong with them. Personally, though, I would always use high-quality merino wool here, because it truly keeps you warm and is breathable. You can never get sweaty underneath it, because excess heat is wicked away. It’s also cuddly soft, which we already love when knitting. And parents like that it can be washed in the washing machine. My recommendation would be this one:

When the children are a little older, they may like it more colorful. This children’s blanket here is crocheted from different colors/leftover yarn. We basically crochet lots of squares, which we then crochet together. Children like it so colorful, and we can use up our leftovers.

And last but not least, another recommendation for the “gradient cake friends.” Yes, you can knit wonderful children’s blankets from gradient cakes, too. This one is made from 5-ply merino wool. The colors come straight from the ball, and in the end you only have 2 threads to weave in. The size of the blanket depends on the size/yardage of the gradient cake. The pattern continues endlessly.

I hope you have lots of fun with the blanket of your choice.
