Dear users, dear authors,
WollwunderPetra suggested over in the other thread having a dedicated thread for the technique C2C / Corner to Corner.
What can you tell me about it?

C2C is a great technique where you crochet from one corner to the next.
You can use it to easily crochet triangles (e.g., for a shawl) or even squares or rectangles.
Whether you turn it into a scarf, a blanket, or a breakfast coaster... it doesn’t matter at all.

The technique is also great for crocheting cool pixel-style pictures—there are no limits to your imagination :)

This technique has completely passed me by so far—I guess I’ve been too focused on amigurumi for too long. I’m determined to make my next project a C2C baby blanket—but I’m having a hard time estimating how much yarn I’ll need for it. For “regular” baby blankets using double crochet, single crochet, and cluster stitches, I’ve typically used about 350–400 g from one yarn cake. What’s your experience with this, and what kind of yarn is best for crocheting a blanket like this? In terms of color selection, a “simple” cotton yarn would probably be suitable—but will it be soft enough?

Sarah, you can really use just about any yarn for that... From whisper-thin to super fluffy and thick—depending on how you want the blanket to turn out :) The only important thing is that it feels good.

Do you want to crochet a picture as a blanket, or just crochet the C2C pattern all the way through—without any color changes or anything like that?
For a blanket without a picture, I think gradient yarn cakes, for example, work wonderfully too. Whether 3-, 4-, ... or 8-ply :)

As for the amount: The best thing is to make a small piece in that technique, maybe 10x10 or 20x20 cm, weigh the piece, and scale it up :)

I’ve noticed that this pattern uses more yarn than others. It’s a very dense pattern. Right now I’m crocheting a bag using this pattern, but I think it’ll stay a one-of-a-kind piece because it’s too heavy to carry around in my purse as a shopping bag.

Crocheting this pattern is a lot of fun—almost addictive.

I crocheted a blanket using this pattern once. The diagonal color gradient is interesting, and once you reach the desired height, the rows get shorter and shorter. I felt like I’d finish it faster that way.

It looks really beautiful.

And thank you so much for your answers. I’d love to crochet a blanket with a pixel motif, but I should probably practice on a small piece first.

Motifs with long stretches in the same color make color changes easier.

If the back isn’t visible (e.g., on a pillow), you can also carry the color along, which I think is easier because you don’t have as many yarn bobbins in use.

There are great videos on YouTube. So far, I’ve only done simple pieces or small projects. I haven’t dared to tackle a large blanket with a motif yet, but I imagine it would be very exciting.

You gave me an idea with this topic.

I crocheted the back of my Tunisian crochet potholder
in C2C.
