Trouble understanding the English pattern

Hi everyone,

I bought the pattern for an otter on Etsy and am currently struggling with several parts. The snout and cheeks are started in a strange way, and unfortunately I can’t tell from the photos how this is supposed to work.

It says:
With A (color) ch 3
Round 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in next ch, 2 sc in next sc (6)

I know all the stitches and have tried this several times now, but first of all, I always end up with 5 stitches instead of 6, and second, I don’t understand which of the following sc I’m supposed to crochet 2 sc into, since the “next ch” was already the last chain stitch.

Can someone explain this to me? Thank you so, so much in advance :)

I’m assuming you’re supposed to crochet the last stitches onto the underside of the foundation chain.

I think there’s a mistake in the pattern.

With color A: 3 chain stitches (it should actually be 4)

Round 1: In the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, you crochet:

1 single crochet
3 single crochets in one stitch
2 single crochets
That would make 6 single crochets.


If I were you, I’d just contact the author of the pattern. She can surely help you.

Yes, what Nadeleule wrote is also a possibility, but that should be described in the pattern.
