Dear users, dear authors,
do you put up a tree for Christmas, of course with tree decorations?
Let me know.

I usually don’t decide until right before Christmas.

I definitely put up decorations, though—for example, by the front door and in the hallway. I use a lot of homemade items for this—things I’ve crocheted or crafted myself.

It’s about time I got started on that.

For me, there are two things that are absolutely essential at Christmas: the Christmas tree and the nativity scene! Nothing works without them!

The tree is decorated in bright colors with lots of ornaments, some of which have been in the family for generations. I made the nativity figures myself out of self-drying modeling clay. This year I’ll even have two nativity scenes (one for the living room and one for the entryway) because I crocheted some nativity figures this year, and of course they have to be put on display too.

Definitely yes! It’s not Christmas without a real tree!
I decorate the tree on the evening of December 23, and my kids (even though they’re already grown up) don’t see it until Christmas Eve. That’s our tradition.
I’d actually prefer a smaller tree—about 1.80m would be enough for me—but every year we end up with a big one (2.30m) that’s really thick. :)
I don’t put handmade decorations on the tree, but there are plenty of homemade decorations throughout the rest of the house. I don’t go overboard with decorations, though—it would feel too overwhelming to me.

At most, there’ll be just a tiny bit of Christmas decor—no tree.

Yes, a Christmas tree—and a real one, not an artificial one.
After all, the sparkle in the children’s eyes is the best part of it all.

Christmas without a (real) tree is unthinkable for me, and it has to be real candles too! We even had those in South America, at 30 degrees in the shade, with a little fir tree in a pot… The tree is decorated with lots of glass ornaments, colorful baubles, and many little figures made of wood or fabric. Many of them absolutely must not be missing, because they remind me of dear people or have a special story behind them.

I spent a long time thinking about whether I want a tree. I’m more of a Christmas grump, and my husband is too. We only ever had a tree when our parents came to visit us (every 3 years). It’s just not that important to me.

Now with Anton, I’m very torn.
This year our parents are coming to visit us, and Anton loves lights and is amazed by every decorated window or garden in the neighborhood.
But he also pulls himself up on everything, and a tree is too dangerous for me. Even with artificial candles (real ones are absolutely out of the question)

But now Mom had a good idea: next to our dining room, we have a conservatory. There’s a power outlet there too, and that’s where we’ll put it.  Protected from Anton and the wind and weather.

Anton will probably sit in front of the window a lot and shout, “There!”

A tree has always been important to me, especially when my son was little. But now he’s grown up and we have a small apartment. So we’ve been celebrating at my parents’ house for years now, and they have a tree. But we definitely decorate the apartment—I won’t miss that for the world—even though my son is more of a Christmas Grinch and thinks the decorated apartment is “silly.”

Yes - absolutely.

We haven't had one in the last few years because we were somewhere else every day over Christmas anyway...
But this year we're having guests over, and we'll finally have a tree again!

I've already decorated for Christmas, but I'm definitely still missing the tree :)

We’ll be putting up a tree too—our lovely artificial Christmas tree. Letting a real tree die just for a few days isn’t really my thing. We did put one in the garden once, but with a townhouse garden, you can’t really do that every year ;-) The dogs don’t pee on the artificial tree—another plus! I decorate it on the 23rd, and the cats then immediately start rearranging or taking down the decorations on the lower part. It stays up until January 6th.

Absolutely!

We usually put up our tree a week before Christmas and leave it up until the trees are picked up.
I love blue spruce trees the most—they just smell so wonderfully like the forest...
Our tree is usually only between 1.20 and 1.50 meters tall, and a crooked top is practically a must....

I’m a total Christmas decoration freak anyway… and I’m glad my husband goes along with it.
Even though our apartment is usually decorated rather “subtly,” when it’s gray outside and there’s no color left, my home always becomes extra cozy. With lots of little lights and bordering on kitsch… that’s when I need my cozy little nest…

We’ve been back from vacation since last Friday, and I finally finished decorating today… except for the tree, of course.

Claudia, it looks really cozy at your place!
It’ll be something like that at my place, too. I’m starting to decorate this weekend.
