Question about the slipper pattern

Hi everyone!

I have another question about my current project and hope someone can give me a tip:

I’m working on these slippers. The top right corner explains how to work the top edge.
My problem is that in the photo, the slippers are open at the front, but mine end like a sock... I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong; since at the end of the round you’re supposed to crochet the last single crochet into the chain stitch (which replaces the first stitch), I’m automatically closing the rounds, right..?!

did you read the pattern correctly???

You should work only 3 rounds (that’s probably where the strap with the button goes over it)  and then start again at the front center; those are  then rows.

Unfortunately there’s only one thing that helps: unraveling.

I understand the part about doing 3 rounds, then reattaching the yarn and starting with a chain stitch.
But if I then crochet a row and am supposed to work the last stitch into the substitute chain stitch, doesn’t that still end up being a round? Or am I missing something here...?

...or do you only work the single crochet into the chain stitch starting from the second row (since they’re rows)...?
