Holiday Greetings: German Unity Day

I grew up with the Wall; I was a real "Wessi kid." For me, it was normal that there was "Germany"—the West—and the "GDR," the East. Since I lived in the area near the inner-German border, I was confronted with the border from an early age—I often went for walks there with my parents. 
I didn't know much about the people "over there," though. That naturally changed after the border was opened. 

By now I'm even married to an "Ossi" who calls himself a "Wossi" because he's been living in the "West" for 15 years. I think the Wall has disappeared from most people's minds by now; after all, an entire generation has grown up that knows Germany's division only from history books and films.

For me, this day is an occasion to remember what it was like back then, when there were still two Germanys...
