Shawl yarn cake

Hi, I know this is probably a silly question, but how do you calculate the individual color lengths for a shawl yarn cake? Is there a formula for that?

I think everyone winds their yarn cakes however they feel is right. It starts with the color transitions.
There are just as many different ways to wind yarn for shawls as there are opinions about beautiful color transitions—or roads to Rome.
And when it comes to winding yarn for shawls, I don’t think any winder will share their “secret recipe” with you.
I’m sorry. That’s probably not the answer you were hoping for.
But maybe you’ll still find an answer, or you can just experiment.

You're welcome. I thought a silly answer is still somehow better than no answer at all.
But I just thought of something else that might cheer you up at least a little bit.
  I’ve already wound so many Bobbel for the bin that I could definitely have made a few bedspreads out of them, and right now, once again, I’m not quite happy with what I’ve wound up.
And I think that’s the case for everyone who has certain standards for their Bobbel.
Time and again, when you want to do something different from the usual, things are guaranteed not to go smoothly. It would be boring otherwise. ^^

That's true, you put a lot of effort into winding a beautiful bobbel. Even when there are problems,
you keep on bobbling.
