Dear users, dear authors,
how are your leftover yarn and the stubborn yarn / formerly neglected yarn doing?
Let me know.

My little daughter is starting kindergarten in September, and I asked there if they’d like me to donate my leftover yarn or any yarn I don’t have a use for.
They gladly accepted it—the kids use it for weaving, crafts, and braiding, and they’re always short on yarn.
So it’s a win-win for everyone :-)
The kids are happy, and I have room to buy new yarn ;-)

I'm currently using up some of my unruly yarn in my blanket to add a little more “pep” to it.
I actually like the yarn, but it’s plied acrylic yarn, and I didn’t want to use it for clothing.
But it goes wonderfully with the twisted cake yarn (also acrylic)!
The cake yarn was also more of an “unloved” one, even though it knits up nicely.
Here’s a progress update
( purple=cake, variegated pink=Bobbel)

Hi Nadeleule, can you explain to me what is meant by “cake yarn”? I’ve never heard the term before and can’t imagine what it is
. Beautiful colors and a lovely pattern!

ChristinaE, cake yarn gets its name from its shape. Like a gradient yarn cake, it’s round and flat on the top and bottom (cake = cake). However, these cakes aren’t made of separate strands but are normally plied, and they’re usually thicker and self-striping in bright colors (for needle sizes 5–6). Examples include Lollypop by Gründl or Caron Cakes.

Mel, your blanket looks beautiful!

I have almost no leftover yarn left. I’m crocheting the last bits into fruit for my granddaughter’s play kitchen.

As for the yarn I don’t like, all I have left is this thick, fluffy plush yarn. But I don’t feel like working with it in the summer. And I can’t think of anything to make with it either. It was just one of those typical “spring yarns”... and now it’s just sitting there, waiting for better times. ;-)

Thank you, Monika! I hardly have any leftovers left either. However, I still have 3 balls of black acrylic yarn that I just can’t seem to use anywhere. It’s too scratchy against the skin, so it’s unsuitable for a pillowcase. Plus, it has a fuzzy texture, so it’s not good for decorations either (I can already picture white and red cat hairs stuck to it in my mind...)

Mel, I’d give that kind of yarn away. I’m sure there are people who’d want it. Maybe your cats can play with it?

Working with yarn is supposed to be fun. And if it isn’t, then I’d rather give it away.

That’s right. I’ve also already passed on quite a bit of (for me) unusable leftover yarn to the preschool and elementary school. I’ll take a look—maybe I’ll find someone who’ll appreciate it.
