Dear users, dear authors,
what’s the best way to handle dropped stitches?
With crocheting, this isn’t really a problem because the work doesn’t unravel right away, but with knitting, it might not be so easy. Do you have any tips on this?

I’ve always picked them back up with a crochet hook.

If I don’t notice it until a few (or many) rows later, I first pull a thread through the dropped stitch and secure it. Then I decide whether I can fix it with a crochet hook, whether I need to knit back stitch by stitch, or maybe even unravel everything again.

A simple pattern can often be fixed with a crochet hook, but with a lace pattern, I’ve had my fair share of trouble.

Yes, lace patterns are a nightmare when you spot a mistake! The only solution is to knit back, no matter how many rows there are (or secure the stitch and generously overlook the mistake ;-) )

Fortunately, it’s never happened to me with a lace pattern. For simple knit-and-purl stitches, I pick them up again with a thin crochet hook. That works very well.

For more complicated patterns, I also undo my knitting ... but only if it spans a few rows. That can be quite tedious.

Well, if the piece is “just” for me and the stitch has dropped in an inconspicuous spot, then I secure it and cut myself some slack.

Otherwise, like the girls above: either use a crochet hook or unravel it.

Or toss it in the corner and start over. I’ve done that before, too. Sometimes it’s faster than unraveling.

Best regards,
Caro
