Calculating yarn cake prices

I’d like to wind my own yarn cakes and sell them.
I’ve already picked out a shop where I’ll order the cones.
But I have one question, and I’m hoping someone can help me.

What’s the best way to calculate the price for a yarn cake I want to sell?

Does anyone have any tips for me?

Hello Anna,

the yarn cake sellers I know set a price per 100 m, which they then apply to the total length of a yarn cake. So if, for example, 100 m of a 3-ply yarn cake costs €1.30, then a yarn cake with 500 m costs €6.50.

This way, you can easily calculate your prices for any yarn cake at any length.

The prices usually vary so that for four-ply yarn cakes the price per 100 m is higher than for three-ply or two-ply yarn cakes. And if a yarn cake is supposed to have a lot of colors (according to the customer's wishes), an additional surcharge is added to that yarn cake.

Ultimately, however, you have to decide for yourself how much money you want for your work and the material needed for the yarn cakes.
