Hi,

what’s trendy this year? What nice outfits could we wear?

Best, Karo

Hello Karo
Blue is totally on trend, tone-on-tone or blue with an eye-catching effect
here are a few pictures so you can picture it better
there’s no DIY included, but maybe you could recreate some of it yourself
http://www.stylebook.de/fashion/Blau-637453.html
the blue shoes in the top-left picture are amazing, but somehow pretty eye-catching after all.
every craft store has bright blue yarn, and there are plenty of patterns for clothing in the shop, so you can surely make something work.
A great triangular shawl in blue is a nice eye-catcher and will also keep you warm in the evening when it gets chilly.

A good match for that is the total denim look being popular again, so a denim top with jeans, or even a jumpsuit or overalls. So it doesn’t look like a construction worker outfit, of course you need pretty high heels or chic accessories with it, such as an elegant dragon tail shawl.
Then you can either use the blue shawl from above or crochet yourself another dragon tail in some contrasting color. Bright red or something. :) You can never have enough dragon tail shawls or triangular shawls anyway.

the origami trend is in for skirts
those are the skirts with points at the bottom and no straight hem edge
you can wear them as mini skirts, but of course also a bit longer
we also have a thread about that here in the forum, where we talked about it once
there’s some info about origami skirts here in the tulle skirt thread
-->Tulle skirts to sew yourself are also totally on trend, at least according to Google; they are hardly bought, but really sewn by hand, and I think CP can definitely help with that.

there’s also info about the origami skirt in the old clothes thread
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/8061/altkleider-wiederverwerten-wichtiges-thema-auch-im-rahmen-eines-handarbeitsforums

Upcycling is totally in and also important and necessary, so I’m in favor of us discussing the topic of using old clothes or also fair trade here in the forum every now and then
here are a few upcycling ideas
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/7985/upcycling-von-nagellackflaeschchen
and here is the fair trade thread
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/8061/altkleider-wiederverwerten-wichtiges-thema-auch-im-rahmen-eines-handarbeitsforums

7/8 pants are totally in, meaning the slightly shorter pants that nicely let the ankle peek out
you can probably crochet them yourself really well, or sew them yourself too, at least if you can manage it with the sewing machine; for me, not so much.
here in the thread we discussed a few ideas for crochet shorts for men
but the patterns are weird
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/7909/neuer-trend-fuer-maenner-haekelshorts
with women, crochet shorts look much better
you can also see that in the patterns linked in the thread
crochet shorts fit well with the current ’70s trend anyway
they’re back in again, flower power and hippies and so on
in the CP shop there are lots of little flowers you can crochet, and you can surely use those for flower power too
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/search?keyword=blume

as you can see, the trends are pretty well represented here in the forum :)
you have to be able to join the conversation, after all :)

I took a look through my latest crochet magazine.
I found crocheted shorts, triangular shawls , bikinis , and lightweight tops. The latter, as mentioned above, are in blue :)
There’s even a crocheted sun hat. I’ve actually never seen one before, but I think it’s an interesting idea.
It really makes you want to head to the beach and the ocean, doesn’t it?

By the way, I find muetzekatze’s thread very interesting!

Hi LunaLovemum,
So you really do still read proper printed crochet magazines? The selection of crochet patterns online and here on CP is so huge that a single crochet magazine somehow just can’t keep up. But I suppose a crochet magazine is also something different — you don’t need a PC or laptop to read it. And you don’t have to print it out first or anything like that.
Do you enjoy that mix of crochet magazines and online patterns? I think you can get the best of both worlds that way.

Crocheted sun hat:

Take a look at the link — on Crazypatterns there are lots of crocheted sun hats for children and adults. I’m sure there’ll be something there for you too.

Thanks for liking my threads/links.

I don't really like blue, so I don't care what's "in" right now.

Hi muetzekatze!
I have to say, I really value print media. I think the possibilities the internet offers us are great, but I don’t want to give up my magazines and books. I also still have some old crochet books that I love to flip through. It really is the best of both worlds :)
I also love curling up on the sofa with a magazine, marking everything I want to crochet, and sometimes jotting down notes on sticky notes. I really enjoy that :) There are actually new magazines coming out all the time, and they’re doing pretty well—if you believe their editorials.
Still, I wouldn’t want to miss out on the online community and resources either. Here, you can get help quickly, “meet” like-minded people, and find exactly the crochet patterns you’re looking for. And there’s always so much to see here, too!

I don’t follow the latest trends or feel like I always have to be up to date. Still, I find it interesting to see where things are headed over time. I’m open to both old and new ideas, and then I pick out what works best for me :)

I also like to keep up with trends. Some of the young girls I sometimes crochet or sew for also want to look stylish. And I’m very curious!
Still, I can only agree with Luna: I also like to pick out the things that suit me, even if they aren’t “in.”
And I’m glad to be part of such a lovely community here!

I'm also very happy to have found this site and this forum :)

and so I’m not completely off-topic:
sometimes a trend is only what you make into one ;) It doesn’t help me if something is trendy but I don’t like it or it doesn’t suit me... But there are such great ideas and alternatives here that, at least for me personally, I often find new trends :)

Trends aren’t particularly important to me. Of course, you can’t help but notice trends—on the street or while shopping—but I’m past the age where you get really caught up in them.

I took another look at what’s trending right now, and these are
- denim skirts, mostly mini-length
- denim overalls, but with cute accessories so they don’t look like workwear
and maxi dresses, those really long dresses that can also be a bit looser. There are also lots of colorful prints this season. That might be interesting for the seamstresses among us who can sew them themselves. Maybe that’s something to try?
