Dear users and authors,
what tips and tricks are there to make crafting more enjoyable in the summer?

Well, the best thing, of course, is to be able to work outside on the balcony, in the garden, or somewhere similar.

It all starts with choosing the right project.
I’d rather crochet a shawl than an amigurumi, which has lots of parts to sew on and needs to be stuffed with stuffing...
So something where you can just start crocheting, knitting, or whatever.
That way, nothing can get blown away by the wind or anything like that.

The choice of material certainly plays a role,
too—I think cotton works well. If you use the wrong material, it might “stick” to your hands, which ruins the fun.

Then: Sit in the shade or put on a hat, and don’t forget the sunscreen :)

If it gets too annoying, just go inside, close the curtains or lower the blinds, and crochet in the cool. ;)

You’re absolutely right. That’s exactly how I do it, too.

I used to love the heat, but lately I haven’t been able to handle it as well. So when I’m crafting, I prefer to sit in the shade or in the cool living room.
By the way, I don’t find crocheting amigurumi all that uncomfortable when it’s warm, because you’re not holding such a large piece in your hands. There are also amigurumi patterns where you don’t have to sew so many pieces together.

I also sit in the shade on the patio in the garden and take my crochet/knitting bucket with me. It has everything I need, and nothing gets blown away. When I’m following a pattern, I take it outside on my iPad—unlike loose pages, it doesn’t blow away.
I prefer to use cotton or bamboo yarn—it’s nice and cool and doesn’t stick like wool does.

Since I often change locations in the summer—always following the shade—I prefer to work on shawls using a yarn cake at home in the garden.

But when I’m out and about and know I might have a few spare moments here and there, I prefer to take amigurumi projects with me. Even to the public pool. That’s because I can quickly set them aside, and the rows go by very quickly.
But I always save the stuffing and sewing for the evening at home. Otherwise, I’d be chasing the stuffing all over the pool.

I prefer to use light, cool, flowing summer yarns, silk, or even cotton. It doesn’t matter to me whether I’m making larger or smaller projects. But the patterns need to be flowing and easy to remember so I can daydream while I work. I prefer to work in the shade in the bathroom, in my parents’ garden, or on the lawn in front of my apartment.
