Comfort Blanket

I have a question for experienced moms: I think crocheted (or knitted) comfort blankets are so cute, but I’d like to know how they hold up in real life. They’re usually made of cotton, which doesn’t dry very well… What material and thickness would you recommend?
Thanks for your tips.

Of course, you can also use softer, quick-drying yarn!
Microfiber or merino wool, for example.
There are lots of yarns made especially for babies. They should definitely be saliva-resistant.

There are often special baby yarns available with a high percentage of acrylic—they’re lightweight, wash well, and dry quickly.

And Nadeleule is right—in principle, you can use any yarn you like :-D

Best wishes, Stefanie

Just—please, please—embroider the eyes yourself! Especially with teething babies, I wouldn’t trust the safety eyes. New teeth are sharp, and it’s not uncommon for babies to chew on those hard plastic eyes or noses, which can then come off.

Hello dear Christine.

I specialize in loveys and baby toys, and I think it's great that you're looking into it.
Many yarns may say "baby yarn," but not every yarn is suitable for toys or loveys.
The yarn should meet many criteria... such as being saliva-resistant, it should not shed, should be washable at high temperatures, and ideally should also be tested for harmful substances. Acrylic or pure wool / merino wool do not meet these criteria. I would advise against pure merino wool, as it sheds; acrylic can only be washed at low temperatures.
The only yarn quality that comes into question is pure cotton, ideally tested for harmful substances. For my loveys I use only Mondial bio soft cotton; of course you can also use another cotton yarn, but it should be as saliva-resistant as possible.
If you have any more questions, feel free to message me.

Thank you so much for your quick replies—they’ve really reassured me. I would never have considered pure wool—sucking on lint isn’t exactly appealing! Thanks also for the tip about the eyes! Since the lovey is going to America, it’ll probably have to meet a few more criteria anyway!
