Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
but at the beginning of the decreases I have 37 stitches on the needle
if I now bind off 28 stitches in total, that only leaves me with 9 stitches on the needle, right????
Then I'm afraid I don't know what to do either. Is the pattern from Crazy Patterns? If so, you can contact the author. Maybe there's a mistake in the pattern?
I don’t know what was written there before, but if this is about decreasing for a sleeve, it’s pretty normal for only a few stitches to remain at the end. That fits nicely into the armholes on the front and back pieces.
So, one more time:
For the sleeve cap, at a total height of 44 cm, bind off 4 sts on both sides, then bind off 1 st 4 times in every 2nd row, 3 times in
every 4th row, and 4 times in every 2nd row.
At a total height of 61 cm, bind off the remaining 18 sts. So, at the beginning—before the decreases—I have 37 sts on the needle.
You have 37 stitches at the beginning; at the end there are still 18 stitches. So you decrease a total of 19 stitches for the sleeve cap.
You decrease these 19 stitches as follows:
4 stitches on each side = 4 stitches at the beginning of the row, then in the next row again 4 stitches at the beginning of the row (29 stitches left)
4. in every 2nd row = decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row, in the 2nd row, in the 3rd row, and in the 4th row the same way (25 stitches left)
3. in every 4th row = decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row, 2 rows without decreases, then again 1 row with a decrease (22 stitches left)
4. in every 2nd row - as before -(18 stitches left)
These 18 stitches are bound off at a height of 61 cm.
Maybe this will help you. I can’t explain it any better either; I didn’t see what you had written at the beginning.
In the 1st row, decrease 4 sts at the beginning and end.
Then, in the next row, decrease 1 st at the beginning and end; followed by 1 row without decreases; then another row with 1 decrease at the beginning and end; 1 row without decreases... repeat this entire sequence 2 more times.
Now knit 3 rows without decreases, 1 row with decreases at the beginning and end, 3 rows without, 1 row with, 3 rows without, 1 row with.
And finally, 1 row without, 1 row with, 1 row without, 1 row with, 1 row without, 1 row with, 1 row without, 1 row with decreases at the beginning and end.
Well, I don’t know what kind of yarn is being used, but with a total sleeve length of 61 cm, I’m assuming this is a sweater for an adult or an older child. Isn’t 37 stitches before the decreases a little too few???? In my opinion, that’s going to be pretty tight on the upper arm. Are there maybe a few stitches missing from the cuff to the decrease point? I’d imagine there are still increases up to that point, so there should be a few more than 37.
How many stitches did you cast on, and how thick is the yarn???
