Shelf Sitters and Dangling Legs

Hi everyone
I had a long browse through the shop, hence the questions and all.
What do you actually do with these shelf sitters? Do you put them somewhere so they can dangle their legs in a funny way?
Do you put pipe cleaners in the arms and legs so they stay in position, or are they made in a special way so they can move flexibly but keep their shape?
Thanks for your info

They’re really cute, but unfortunately I don’t know how to make them.

Yeah, exactly—I think they’re totally cute too, but if they keep falling over, then it’s no fun. Then I’d rather just go for a “normal” amigurumi without dangling legs.

Hi everyone,
you never stop learning. I’d never heard of ledge sitters and dangling legs before, but now I know what they’re all about.
Sunny greetings

Are they mainly just decorative, or are they also suitable as toys?

Hi. They come with and without wire in the arms and legs. Things like that have actually been around forever. Back in the day, they were mostly made of ceramic with fabric legs. They used to be called “shelf sitters.” They’re mainly for decoration. They sit on a shelf, on a windowsill, in flower boxes, and so on… Depending on how sturdy they are, they can also be used as bookends. I made something similar for Halloween. A TV sitter... the ghost sits on top of the TV as a little light decoration. It looks quite funny. Best regards, Nicole

I didn’t know there was a specific name—or names—for them either. I would have categorized figures like that more as “dolls” or “toys.”

@berlidesign
With wire? Then that’s not suitable for small children.

The ones with wire are decorative items too :) or rather, if they use pipe cleaners and these are properly worked in, children can play with them, but the main purpose of shelf sitters/edge sitters is decoration

Thanks, berlidesign. What is plush wire? Is that the same as pipe cleaners?

Yes, exactly—chenille wire = pipe cleaners :-)

That’s more of a women’s thing, isn’t it? ;-)
My better half has made a few of those, too.
