Hehe, the word somehow sounds a bit like “being in heat” :-) It kind of fits, too: I rub against the wool, meow, sniff around, and am generally restless. Especially at wool festivals ;-)
Yes, I also immediately associated it with “Rolligkeit” (being in heat). But there’s also something like “Wohligkeit” (coziness) in it. I feel good with wool...
"Wooliness"? "Wool lust"? ;-)
In any case, I definitely associate it with something lovely. Wool, softness, coziness, warmth... all kinds of lovely things. :-)
“Wolligkeit” :-), that’s exactly the right word for me :-), and I feel much the same way as Ruth—I associate it with a sense of well-being and relaxation, along with the joy of watching a project grow bit by bit and seeing all the wonderful things that can be made from yarn.
Yes, “woolliness.” If you pronounce it just a tiny bit differently, it becomes “coziness.” And that’s exactly how I feel when I sit in my rocking chair and knit, say, a scarf or a blanket—as the blanket gets bigger and bigger and wraps me up in its woolliness. That’s when I feel a sense of well-being.
I just looked it up in the Duden to see whether the word even exists. It really does! There’s an entry as the translation of the English word woolliness: BLURRINESS f (also fig.), (of thoughts also) confusion f
Ummm.
If enough people give a word an extra meaning and use it that way, it may eventually catch on everywhere.
So don’t let it confuse you.
Just carry on with the wooliness.
