UFO Week: join in now + become UFO King / UFO Queen

New UFO event from October 16 to October 22/23.
Thanks to everyone for joining in, and congratulations to all the new UFO Kings and Queens.

The aliens have landed with their spaceships and have taken over the Earth and even Crazypatterns, even though it isn’t even Halloween yet. ; )

Dear users, dear authors,
this week is UFO Week (= I made it up, but I hope you’ll all join in ) and that means:
Each of you picks one UFO / WIP / PIA = those started projects that are languishing in the yarn basket and waiting for better times, but really just one, out of the basket, and finishes it.

You’re welcome to upload photos here in the thread, and there’s motivation here too. Anyone who needs advice, tips, or help can of course get that here in the thread or in the forum too.

Mod tip: Here on Crazypatterns, you can contact authors from whom you have bought a pattern at any time by PM (= private message ) or email and ask for help if you have problems making the project.

Who’s in? Who’s joining? Who has a UFO or several that need to go? Please briefly introduce your UFO and then get to work with the needle / scissors / sewing machine.

--> Anyone who finishes a UFO by the end of the week may call themselves UFO King or UFO Queen. As everyone knows, that is a great honor. :- )
I’m excited to see your UFOs (soon to be finished ).

******************************************

Congratulations to the new UFO Kings and UFO Queens.
You have truly earned your title.

First and foremost, of course, Nina vom Shop Zwergnasebär.
The pants for the sweet daughter were finished really quickly.
Extra praise for speed and determination.
--> In the Zwergnasebär shop there are lots of patterns for children.
Anyone who wants to make handmade items for babies and toddlers shouldn’t miss it.
The decorations, and especially the birds, e.g. the budgies
are worth a second look too.

Then we also have Mel vom Shop Nadeleule, who has truly earned the title UFO Queen with the finished socks. Anyone who would like a free pattern for a unicorn and a cushion cover with a star on it should click right away. Congratulations, Mel. How about creating and uploading a pattern for the socks? They look good and warm. Great for winter.

Warm congratulations also to Petra vom Shop stjerne61 for the finished Christmas pirate neckerchief. It’s not just the cat who is delighted; I am too. It turned out really beautiful.
In the stjerne61 shop you’ll find many wonderful animals, door decorations, doorstops and, of course, autumn decorations.
Sticking with it is worth it.

Congratulations to our user ChristinaE, who is not an author yet.
But since she finished a dreamily beautiful potholder with moose as her UFO project, I’m of the opinion that so much talent must not be wasted. Maybe you’d like to think about whether you want to become an author? Warm greetings from the big canton to Switzerland.

And another UFO Queen:
Iglinz has finished and sewn in the ends on her blanket. The blanket really turned out very pretty. The pattern is definitely not ordinary; I find it very impressive. Maybe you’d like to click into the Shop von iglinz; she has wonderful knitting patterns for scarves, shawls, stoles, etc., for example. Congratulations on your new title.

And the title “UFO Queen” goes to Pe-Ka, who finally finished the hooded vest for her father.
It fits the season, and the design is wonderful too. If you’d like to make Anleitungen von Pe-Ka, you’ll find many of them in her shop. It’s worth it. Alongside the Izzy baby blanket, the potholders with a flower motif and star motif (and all the other patterns too ) are decorative and always worth making. Warm congratulations.

Even more UFO Queens:
RuthK has finished embroidering her Christmas blanket. Working on the UFO was totally worth it.
In the Shop von RuthK there are even more enchanting patterns, including cats, little lambs, shells, Barbie clothes, bookmarks, door wreaths, and much, much more.
Click in and get the highlights from UFO Queen RuthK’s shop. It’s not only animal lovers who will like this shop.

Another UFO Queen:
Mowi19 has successfully landed her jacket UFO. The jacket turned out fantastic. It’s warm and in bright colors too, so it can brighten up dreary autumn days. In the Shop von Mowi19 you’ll find many colorful patterns that are also practical, such as this crocheted cover for a tissue box, baby clothing, children’s clothing, ponchos, triangular shawls, owls, butterflies, gnomes, and much more. Have fun in UFO Queen Mowi19’s shop.

Warm congratulations also to UFO Queen and new mommy Arni. My very best wishes for a long, healthy, and happy life to little Anton. A new baby is also a kind of successfully completed UFO. :- )

Congratulations to our new UFO Queen Traudelina, who is wrapping up the project week as part of this UFO King event. She finally finished knitting her socks, which was pretty difficult considering how much she had on her plate. So compliments and congratulations to Traudelina. In her shop you’ll find wonderful patterns, including for shawls and hats. You can also visit her in her yarn shop.

Hi Josefa,

I think your idea is absolutely great!!!

I’d love to join in. Once I’ve decided on a UFO, I’ll introduce it and get to work. (That’s the plan.)

After all, when else do you get the chance to become the UFO King? :) :)

Best wishes, Petra

Well, that’s great.
I hope we’ll have several UFO kings and queens by the end of the week. Space is big enough that we can have several of them without running into any space issues. :-)

Does my UFO count too?
It’s a vest I’ve been making for my dad for ages, and I’ve really made it a point to have it finished by his birthday on September 25. All that’s left are the pockets and sewing in the zipper.

Other than that, I also have a hat somewhere for a friend. But I’d have to look for that one first. She tried it on once, and there were only a few rows left to go. But then the new project came along, and anyway, it was spring...

All my other UFOs are big projects that I unfortunately won’t be able to finish by the weekend.

Oh my gosh, one project will probably be finished today, but I don’t think that counts... Because I’ve been working on it consistently for days.
My other UFO still needs about 360 rows of 349 half double crochets each. I can guarantee that one will NOT be finished...
I’ll have to dig around to see if I can find another UFO lying around somewhere... :D

@Pe-Ka,
yes, that counts too. You can do it.

@Tina,
yeah, look for a suitable UFO.
You don’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance to become the UFO Queen, do you? :-)

My UFO is a children's neckerchief / triangular scarf,
I started it back in the summer and have always been looking for a motif to crochet in.

That's how far along my UFO is at the moment.

Now I'm going to look for a motif and bring the UFO in for a landing.

Best, Petra

I’ve had a half-finished pair of baby pants lying around here for weeks… I’ll have to check later to see if the waistband is even wide enough anymore… and now the weather is right for this kind of clothing too…
If the waistband still fits, I’ll take a photo later… then the pants will be finished this week (I WANT a crown *laughs*)… if not, I’ll at least unravel them ;)

Unraveling won’t earn you a crown, but I’m sure you’ll find a way to claim that crown.
Good luck, Nina.

Well then, make sure the aliens don’t throw a party if you have that many UFOs. As far as I know, alien parties are pretty lively. ; ) Contrary to rumors to the contrary, party aliens aren’t related to those hardworking little helpers. They definitely won’t take any work off your hands.

Beam me up, Scotty.
I just had to throw that in, even if it’s a bit out of place :-)

So if I go looking for a UFO now (and there are definitely plenty of them...), then my current project will turn into a UFO again. It’s a real dilemma!
On the other hand, there’s this blanket:

I’ve been knitting that one since May. I’ve already reached the final edging. I should actually be able to finish it this week.

That works pretty badly over the internet because someone has once again clogged the line with cookie crumbs.
You’ll just have to pull yourself up by your own ears.
But you’ll get that UFO done—I have no doubt about it—otherwise there’s no crown.

We have a wonderful free crown in the shop. Anyone who gets an UFO done can surely make the little crown too and wear it with pride.

E-book Appliqué "CROWN" Sewing Pattern | Free

Mod Tip:
If you know someone who makes wonderful things every now and then, why not make a little crown and give it as a gift with words of thanks and appreciation?
That would surely make someone happy. A little crocheted flower would work great too. Here are a few free flowers to download.

I still haven’t finished my “hate sweater”... After the sleeves looked absolutely awful, I decided on the spot to unravel it completely again, and now I’ve finished about 3/4 of the new front (including the front halves of the sleeves). Now I just hope I have enough yarn. Other than that, there are also a few half-finished crocheted socks, and I’m sure I’ll finish those this week...

Your "hate sweater"?
That’s intense.
I was talking about UFOs that need to be finished—you should leave the "hate projects" alone. That’s not what I meant by UFO Project Week.

Dear Josefa! The yarn for this sweater is very warm and cozy, and I’ve decided to knit a sweater from it, even though I’m usually more of a crocheter.
I call it my “hate sweater” because on my first attempt, I knitted a total of 7(!) different sleeve variations until the sleeve hem looked so ragged that I had no choice but to unravel it. I do like it, but since it took me so many tries (I hope this is the last time)
and I’m always soooo impatient for something to be finished, it’s my “hate sweater.” So, as you may have noticed, it’s more of a love-hate relationship…
just to be safe, though, I’ll work on the UFO crochet socks instead—they’ve been sitting around for a while—and rushing to finish this sweater now (given our currently strained relationship) certainly isn’t conducive to a successful outcome *laughs*

So… I’d like my little crown, please :D

I actually felt a little challenged in my honor *laughs* and quickly finished my little UFO pants today… (yes, it does make you wonder why it became a UFO in the first place… probably just because the weather was too warm ever since I started making it…).

Hi Nina,

that was quick! All I can say is that a UFO was spotted on landing, and the UFO King—no, the UFO Queen—was at the controls. :-)

My UFO is still circling the galaxy, but it’s slowly heading toward landing as well.

Have a great day, and best wishes, Petra

Good morning!

Yes, that went quickly after all - it "only" needed a firm nudge (thanks, dear Josefa :) )!

The little one is about to put the pants on right away - this (awfully cold) rainy weather is all too fitting ;)

Best regards - Nina (who's about to carry on with one of her various current projects so they don't "turn into" UFOs *laughs*)

The pants are super cute, and I was also surprised at how big your little one already is ♥

Nina, you’re awesome! You finished a UFO sooo quickly. I admire you. Your little one looks cute in it.

I have several UFOs, including a larger project. Now I can finally finish them. It’s a cardigan I started back in the summer and that I really need to finish by the weekend. But I also have other UFOs...

Tomorrow I’ll show you which one I decide on.

I’m curious to see what other UFOs are floating around here. :-)

Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Does this count too (at least for a small point)?: The first potholder (of a pair), which has been languishing in the basket for months, has just been finished; I only still need to weave in the ends. I had to buy more yarn for the second one, so unfortunately it won’t be finished by the end of the week.
Nina, the little one looks cute in her pretty little UFO pants!

Great idea, Josefa. I’ve only just seen it.
I have lots - too many - UFOs. But it’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this.

I dug out some socks made from 6-ply merino sock yarn with a special pattern that adapts to wider ankle areas, fits comfortably and loosely, yet the cuff doesn’t slip down or dig in, even if my feet swell a bit more. They’re supposed to be Christmas gifts... I’d planned to make three pairs of socks like this. So this is a good opportunity to get back to knitting them.
Well, maybe I’ll manage it, even though I’m currently working late into the night.

@Nina: Those little pants are adorable. I’m sure there’ll be a pattern for them too, right?

Okay, my eyes are closing now.
Good night, everyone.
Best, Traudelina

I love it when a plan comes together.

Thanks to Josepha’s great idea, I actually brought one UFO in for a landing.

My tomcat first had to inspect exactly which creatures were on board.

It turned out to be a Christmas pirate neckerchief, but it can also be worn as a headscarf :-)

Funny enough, I started it in the summer, and now it has turned into something wintry.

"lulegh coronation" — that’s Klingon and means "off to the coronation" :-)

Some great UFOs have already landed—each unique in its own way. Now a few more are on their way down and will soon leave the galaxy of unfinished projects.

So the number of UFO royalty is growing, and it’s time to celebrate.

Thanks again for this nudge and also for the shout-out at the top of the thread.

The jacket/vest for my dad is also finished. His birthday isn’t until Monday, so I quickly had him put it on for the photo.
And thanks for the thread with the crown—otherwise, I would have put it off again, and he wouldn’t have gotten it until Christmas. But now it’s just right for fall.

Okay, Dagmar from Pe-Ka, you’re now up there with the UFO Queens, too.
Don’t look so skeptical in the photos. You’re cute, and the jacket turned out beautifully.

@everyone,
I’ve been thinking about holding UFO Week once a month.
That way, everyone will have the chance to earn the title.
Previous UFO Kings can, of course, defend their title and keep it in the second round.
Only if there’s absolutely no UFO left to finish can you automatically keep the title.

*******************************
If you’d still like to become a UFO King or Queen in this current round, you’ll need to upload a photo of your finished UFO by Sunday evening or Monday.
The next chance to earn the title won’t be until the end of October. <\/strong>

So, the embroidered Christmas blanket is finally finished too (thanks to Josefa’s challenge) — it’s been in the works since last Christmas ;-) However, I still have some fabric left over and am thinking about embroidering some napkins to go with it. Does that still count, or is that a new UFO?
I think the idea of repeating this challenge regularly is great! Soon there won’t be any UFOs left...

I’ve got something too. This is supposed to be a table runner for my mother-in-law for Christmas. I’ve already done three rounds of unraveling—I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it by Sunday. But maybe by October ;)

First of all, thanks to Josefa for adding it. A pattern is planned, but who knows when the time will come. So much is planned!

And congratulations to everyone else on your former UFOs!

congratulations — you’re up there now. Maybe make the napkins anyway — that way you’ll get the project off your mind, and it fits the season. That’s my tip.

Next, I’ll finish writing the pattern for it—I’ve actually already started on that.

And here’s the jacket now—ta-daaa!

By the way, it’s a great idea to organize a monthly event like this. It really keeps things moving. Knowing myself, I’ll probably have at least three UFOs to choose from. ;-)

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Thanks, dear Josefa, for the kind words. :-)
I’m glad you like the jacket. I’m happy to finally be able to wear it too.

Since the pattern is going to be quite extensive, it might take a few more days. But it should be finished by early October and can then go into the shop. Thank you so much for giving us a nudge here and crowning all of us upthread. :-)

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

And the others, too—the moose—wow...

Thanks, Traudelina! :-) I’m also really happy that I finally finished it, thanks to Josefa.

Sewing on buttons, finishing knitting the collar, weaving in ends ... phew, those aren’t exactly my favorite things to do. I’m surely not the only one here. ;-)

Thanks, Ida :-)
I wore it today at the picnic by Lake Chiemsee and took a few photos of it right away. Let’s see if I can use them for the shop.

Traudelina, we were up at Seebruck on Lake Chiemsee—it’s closer to where we live. But a visit to your awesome yarn shop is definitely on my wish list. As for when that’ll be—let it be a surprise. :-) I’ll probably have to save up a bit more first, because I’m afraid I might find quite a few things there.

Warm regards to everyone—Monika

Dear Monika,
I’m already looking forward to your surprise visit. I’ll have a cup of coffee ready for you—you don’t have to save up for that at all :-). Yarn addicts are, of course, very much at risk in my shop—I’ll admit it... ;-)
Best wishes, Traudelina

@Traudelina,
are / were the socks a UFO?

@everyone,
please introduce the UFOs for the current event here with a photo by this evening.
The next UFO event, where you can defend or win your title, will take place in mid / late October.

Good morning, Josefa!

Should we all post our UFOs again with a photo? Or does that only apply to those whose photos aren’t complete?

Have a wonderful, woolly week, everyone! :-)

Monika

Hi Monika,
have a wonderful, wooly week, too.
This only applies to those whose photos aren’t complete yet.
Everyone who’s already been mentioned above as a UFO king or queen doesn’t need to do anything.

Thanks, Josefa!

My dad was thrilled with the vest. And I’m 99% sure it only got finished thanks to your challenge.

I still have a few UFOs lying around at home, so I’m hoping your next challenge will help me finally cross one or two of them off my to-do list.

And to make sure I don’t run out of projects, I started two new ones yesterday. Now that the vest is finally done.......

@Pe-Ka
Great to hear that. I hope your dad enjoys the vest for a long time.
I love motivating people—it’s so nice. Especially when people actually join in. If you guys hadn’t been up for it, I could’ve kept doing UFO Weeks here until the aliens finally abducted me of their own free will. :-)

@everyone
The next challenge will start around October 16. Then there’ll be another one starting (around) November 13. There won’t be a UFO challenge during Advent—there’s plenty to do anyway.

Unless you want a challenge in December to finish all your Christmas gifts? If so, please comment in the thread.

However, I might suggest a “Projects That Take More Time” event for the period between Christmas and New Year. We’ll see how it goes.

Then another UFO event in January, also around the middle of the month. Of course, this is subject to change. If you join in, we can do this once a month.

What do you think?

I think this is a great idea! It would also help me work through my old stash of yarn....

We can expand this challenge to “Finish UFOs and reduce your yarn stash.”

Whoever finishes a UFO is the UFO King or Queen.
Whoever reduces their yarn stash is the Yarn Emperor or Empress. (Starting in mid-October here on this channel—tune in again.)
It’s that simple :-)
Knowing you all, you’ll be buying more yarn again right away.
But that’s okay. :-)

Does anyone really want to seriously reduce their yarn stash?

Yes, so that more can be bought if needed. :-)

I’ll tell you right now, I’d love to take a little UFO crown, but that “Wool Empress” thing just doesn’t work for me :-)

Yes, I have to... my husband and I have an agreement that we only buy new yarn once the old yarn has been used up....

@Iglinz, well, you can be both at the same time. You’re missing out.

Are there any other titles you’d really like to have?
We can just make them up.
I’m generous like that.

Hehe... Reduce my yarn stash?? How’s that even possible? Mine somehow keeps filling up all on its own, as if by magic. ;-)

I’m in, Josefa, every month. This is a great idea and really motivates me to finally finish those UFOs and reduce my (old) yarn stash so there’s enough room for new yarn. At least that way we save ourselves from having to buy new cabinets (grin). I’d rather spend that money on yarn.

Maybe we could do something Christmassy in December, along the lines of “Heavenly Yarn Corner” or something like that. Everyone could showcase their Christmas projects or gifts.

Oh, I really love this ideas corner here! :-)

@Nadeleule,
then get cracking, and I’ll name you Wool Empress in October. :-)
You can do it.

I’m also in favor of naming Nadeleule the “Wool Empress.” Then she can show her husband the imperial crown, and maybe she’ll be allowed to buy new yarn again!

If Nadeleule has used up a lot of yarn by October 19/20, I’ll gladly crown her the “Yarn Empress.”

@Monika,
I like yarn-room projects.
I think your December project is good.

@everyone,
are there any other yarn-room project requests?

I love the idea of the Christmas “Heavenly Yarn Room” — I absolutely love looking into other people’s craft rooms and admiring all the amazing projects!
I also think reducing my yarn stash is a great idea — unfortunately, my good intentions haven’t quite worked out yet, but maybe with your help…

It’s always these men who think we have too much yarn.
I’ve got one of those at home, too. And yet I’ve managed to stow (almost) all the yarn from his workshop upstairs. He hasn’t discovered the very last bit yet—he never looks in that cupboard anyway......

At our house, my daughter will be the “leftover-yarn knight” — she’s not into princesses and that sort of thing....
She’s currently enthusiastically going through my yarn and making herself a pom-pom rug. She saw it online and is now working on it very diligently. She’s doing it all by herself; I only help her when it comes to sewing the individual pom-poms together.

@Josefa: My socks have been lying around for months , waiting to be finished. I usually start in the spring with the resolution, “This year, I’ll have my little gifts ready by the start of the season” for my Christmas gifts , and then they often end up being finished almost too late. Something always comes up: other ideas and pattern requests from customers, taxes, technical issues with the cash register, online banking, the phone system, and so on, crochet nights, environmental project meetings, appointments with contractors, appointments, appointments…
Well, I can’t even remember all the obstacles anymore. And there are always other “time thieves.”
This past September, I didn’t exactly have much time for knitting. I wanted to finish two patterns in September—forget it!
For example, I’m still sitting in the shop doing the bookkeeping, and quickly filling some threads... But now I’m getting hungry… grin
I wonder if I’ll even be able to keep my eyes open for knitting today…??

Dear Traudelina,
You really don’t have it easy. It’s admirable that you actually managed to finish the socks. Congratulations on your new title, UFO Queen. You’ve been added above in the first post.

@everyone,
heartfelt congratulations to all UFO Kings and Queens. You can defend your title from October 16 to October 22/23 with another UFO project.

Anyone who didn’t receive a title this time can win the title in October with another UFO project.

Please remember that the Become Wool Empress campaign runs until October 23. Iglinz calls it a wool diet. :-) No new yarn is bought; instead, you use up your stash. I hope you’ll join in and work through lots of yarn.

Oh oh... this isn’t going to work for me. I’ll be at Traudelina’s on Thursday... and there’s no way I’ll be sticking to a yarn diet. I’m already fearing the worst. :-)

But for “UFO Queen” in October, I’m in. Knowing myself, by then I’ll have a few UFOs that still haven’t landed, circling around and waiting to land.

Thank you so much, dear Josefa.
Monika was at the shop today—and we chatted our heads off, and tomorrow we’ll keep chatting :-)))  Lovely.
That’s why I stayed up late again and finally finished the UFO pattern for my socks and uploaded it just in time for the start of the month. It can go in the October new releases, right?
Okay, now off to bed…
Hugs, Traudelina

Yessss, I’m totally thrilled with Traudelina’s yarn shop! :-)
And I was good and didn’t buy out the whole place.
The temptation was really huge!
It’s truly wonderful to hug each other in person. Almost like coming home....
Thank you, dear Traudelina, for taking the time for me!
But today I’m really just popping in “briefly” to show you my jacket..... ;-)

I wish you all a wonderful day!

Monika

Glad you two are having fun together. :- )

@Traudlina,
the promotional thread for new releases in October will go up on October 2—new items from September 28, 29, and 30 can be included there too.

Thanks, Josefa! We had that today, too.

Well, the yarn craving has struck again in full force. :-) I actually went back to that great store.

The worst part was that Traudelina was constantly busy with customers, and I… had soooo much time to look at yarn.

Oh dear… and I just liked way too much of it. And I got sooo many ideas for what I could make with it. So much for my good intentions. I’d even made a point of bringing only a little cash and leaving my debit card at home.

And what do creative yarn addicts do in that situation? Of course—buy on account and pay later.

Oh well, now winter is saved and I’ll keep adding to my shop here. :-)

Have a lovely evening, everyone, and thanks again to Traudelina!

Monika
